These detectors are available in either 135°F (57.2°C) or 194°F (90°C) ratings. The 302 Series are normally -open devices designed espe- cially for fire detection and alarm systems. FEATURES • Immediate response. The 302 Series activate whenever ambient air temperature reaches a detector's setting, elimi- nating the thermal time lag inherent in conventional heat detectors. Eliminates false alarms. The 302 Series do not respond to momentary temperature fluctuations below the selected temperature. • Universal application. The 302 Series can be used in all areas for any type of occupancy. • Self -restoring. • Hermetically sealed, shock resistant, corrosion resistant, and tamper -proof. PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION The 302 Series rate -anticipation heat detectors respond and activate the fire alarm immediately whenever the ambient temperature reaches the preset temperature setting. Under rapid heat rise conditions, the rate -anticipation feature en- ables the detector to respond one to three degrees ahead of the setting. At the same time, however, it does not respond to momentary temperature fluctuations below the selected protection level, thus eliminating false alarms. When tem- perature drops back down below the protection level, the detector automatically resets itself. DIMENSIONS (Model 302) Total overall length: 4-1/8" (10.48 cm). Base diameter: 2" (5.08 cm). Unimode® System fire alarm monitor & control Heat Detectors 4220/4222 Series California State Fire Marshal U.L., U.L.C. Listed/FM Approved The Heat Detectors react to abnormal heat by closure of normally -open contacts. The 4220 is a combination rate -of -rise and fixed -temperature de- tector. The 4222 is a fixed -temperature detector only. Detector Features • Attractive low profile blends with any decor. • Reliable low-cost operation. • Double -screw- terminals for supervised connections. • Mounting flexibility using unique twist -lock plate. • Operated Indicator Disc. DESCRIPTION The Heat Detectors low profile and white finish are suitable to any decor scheme. A unique mounting plate (supplied) permits installation directly on a ceiling for approved open wiring or to a 31/2" (or 4") octagonal, or 3 1/4 " square, outlet box for con- duit wiring. Both detectors are available in 135°F or 197°F ratings. The working parts are protected against dirt, dust, moisture, and other normal en- vironmental hazards. OPERATION The 4220 is suitable for use in most locations ex- cept those with sudden temperature changes or extreme hazardous or corrosive atmospheres. The detector initiates an alarm when (1) the surround- ing air temperature rises too quickly, activating its rate -of -rise pneumatic mechanism, or (2) the rated temperature is reached, causing its fusible fixed - temperature element to open. The rate -of -rise mechanism is self -restoring upon dissipation of the heat or with constant temperature prevailing. The fusible element is coupled to a spring-loaded disc which pops down, dangling from a tether, when the melting point of the element is reached. The dan- gling disc indicates the detector must be replaced. The 4222 has a fusible element only and is used where sudden temperature changes below rated temperature may occur. Listed, FM Approved 770,1 FEATURES • Attractive Lexan Design • Single Stage or Two Stage Operation • Flexible Contact Arrangement • Surface or Semi -Flush mounting • Optional Break rod feature DESCRIPTION The ADT 5060 Series non -coded fire alarm stations provide an attractive, easy to identify means for man- ually initiating a fire alarm signal. Constructed of high impact textured red Lexan, the low profile design com- plements most architectual styles while meeting code requirements. The recessed operating levers are designed to elimi- nate projections which can catch clothing and cause accidental operation. The operation of the station requires the user to push in the top panel of the station and then pull the main action lever. Once operated, the main action lever remains in the actuated position. The station can be reset with a key. Various switch configurations are available with the 5060 Series stations. The 5060-S has a N.O. switch which closes its contact when the main operating lever is pulled. The 5060 -SG is similar to the 5060-S except that it contains an additional N.O. general alarm key oper- ated switch which is accessible when the main actuat- ing lever is operated. The 5060 -SR and -SGR are similar to the 5060-S and -SG, respectively, except that they are equipped with 1,000 ohm resistors for applications requiring current limited alarm initiating devices. TECHNICAL DATA To meet the requirements of U.L. and other local codes only one field wire is permitted to be connected to each terminal. Connections to the station are made on clamp type terminals. Wires up to 14 AWG can be connected to the Dual Action Non -Coded Fire Alarm Station 5060 Series terminal. The switch contacts on the 5060-S and -SG are rated at 3 A @ 120 VAC/24 VDC. Listed FEATURES • Sealed Lead Acid Rechargeable Battery • Long Life • Low Maintenance • Exceptional Deep Discharge Recovery No Corrosive Gas Generation DESCRIPTION The 4520-600 series battery packs provide 24 VDC standby power to operate the Unimode system dur- ing a failure of the commercial power source. Each 24 volt battery pack consists of a set of re- chargeable gelled electrolyte lead acid batteries. These batteries are ideally suited for the charge - discharge cycles associated with fire alarm applica- tions. Battery packs are sized depending on the sys- tem, the load, and the standby period required. The 4520-605; -608; -610; -615 battery packs mount within the Unimode enclosure and do not reduce the mounting space available for module installation. SELECTION Selection of the proper battery pack is based on the power requirements of the fully configured system, i.e., both the module power requirements as well as the power requirements of the signaling devices. Additionally, the standby period over which the sys- tem must operate must also be considered. Required standby periods for each system classification may be determined by consulting the NFPA 72 series standards. ry 4520-605 SYSTEMS Unimode® System fire alarm monitor & control The Ampere -Hour requirements of the Unimode system may be determined using the following equation: system Ampere -Hours =1.2 [7Oma +10x H + (Ia+Ib) J 12 Where H = Hours of standby operation: Ia = Supervisory Current la = Alarm Signal Current (signaling devices) Ib = Alarm current (total for 3 zones or 10% of zones in alarm, worst case. Be sure to include system functions such as central sta- tion modules.) NOTE: This equation provides a minimum of 5 minutes of operation at the end of the standby period. Current requirements may be determined from individual specification sheets. ENGINEERS' SPECIFICATION Standby power for the system shall be provided for a 24 (60) hour period. At the end of this 24 (60) hour period, the system shall be capable of operating all signaling devices for a minimum of 5 minutes. Bat- teries shall be of the gelled electrolyte type.
