Reallocation City of Tukwila Washington Resolution No. 1249 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, REDIRECTING THE ALLOCATION OF KING COUNTY OPEN SPACE BOND FUNDS FOR LAND PURCHASES IN THE CITY. WHEREAS, the City had sought and received allocations of King County Open Space Bond funds to purchase parcels of open space in Tukwila, and WHEREAS, several proposed sites are no longer considered primary open space purchases in the City because of changed conditions, and WHEREAS, the Tukwila Pond site was listed in the City's original list of purchases submitted to King County when the original list of sites was filed, but was removed to reduce the funding request, and WHEREAS, the Tukwila Pond site is available for purchase and is considered a high priority parcel to obtain, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. The Riverton Greenbelt and Southgate Greenbelt sites are located within one block of recently acquired Southgate Park and open space lands previously owned by King County and such lands support City needs for Park and Open Space in this neighborhood, and 2. The Mapletree Greenbelt on 65th Ave. S. contains wetlands which will be preserved by the developer based on current permit applications and therefore acquisition of the complete site is not necessary at this time, and 3. The Tukwila Pond site is a 24.6 acre parcel containing 22 acres of wetland and 2.6 acres of developable land in a business area that has no other parks or open spaces within its central core, and 4. Preservation of the Tukwila Pond and directly adjacent land offers a benefit to wildlife now using the pond area, and to the many people who now and in the future could enjoy the open space and passive park in the midst of an area identified as an Urban Center, and 5. The City has determined that purchase of the Tukwila Pond site is now a high priority for which the Open Space funds should be directed. 1. The City Council wishes to reallocate their unspent King County Open Space Bond funds to the Tukwila Pond site, and asks the King County Open Space Citizens Oversight Committee and the King County Council to approve such action. 2. Should no sale of the Tukwila Pond site be consummated, the funds shall revert to the original projects planned and from which these funds are being reallocated.
