There are 6 components in a basic No. 5 Hanger: The clip, 2 wood screws, a hanger rod and locking hex nut, and an adjustable hanger ring. The rod may be either all thread rod (ATR) or machine thread rod (MTR). All thread rod is considered to be standard. however. As a rule, machine thread rod is provided only when it is a specific require - mem of the job specifications Design per NFPA 13, Ordinary Hazard All materials to be new, U.L. listed, and F.M. approved First Floor Offices 54 — Add Reliable Model F1 Standard Response 155° Pendants 1/2 x 1/2` • 82 — Change existing 401 type to Reliable Model F1 Standard Response 155° Pendants 1/2 x 1/2 hs e No. 5 Hangers may also be used with other types of construction of adequate strength when provided with suitable fasteners - subject to the approval of the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). Deviations from standard fas- teners are to be clearly indicated an the plan by detail or in a hanger note (see Hanger Codes / Plan Designations). NFPA Requirements / Limitations NFPA 13 permits the use of 2 screw ceiling flanges only for pipe sizes up to 2" and it calls for the use of screws having dimensions not less than those of No. 18 x 1W' wood screws. ALWAYS CHECK GASKET SUPPLIED TO BE CERTAIN IT IS SUITED FOR THE SERVICE INTENDED. REFER TO PAGES 8 AND 9. ALWAYS LUBRICATE GASKET FOR PROPER COUPLING ASSEMBLY. REFER TO PAGE 8. PIPE MUST ALWAYS BE PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH VICTAULIC® SPECIFICATIONS. REFER TO PAGES 32-33. 1. PREPARE TO ASSEMBLE: To prepare for assembly, remove one nut and bolt rom housing. Loosen the other nut until t is flush with the end of the bolt. Do not remove. Remove the tape and lift the gasket from Mechanical -T. 2. CHECK GASKET AND LUBRICATE: Apply a thin coat of Victaulice Lubri- cant or silicone lubricant to all surfaces of the gasket_ This is essential to insure proper sealing. Other compatible lubri- cants may be used, however da not use a petroleum base lubricant. Reposition gasket into housing using alignment tabs on sides for proper posi- tioning. 3. POSITION MECHANICALT: To as semble the coupling on the pipe first rotate the lower housing approximately 90 degrees away from the upper hous- ing. Place the upper, or outlet, section on to the face of the pipe in line with the outlet hole. Rotate the lower section around the pipe and close the two halves. *See pages 72 & 73 for FIT outlet pipe assembly. 68 4. INSERT BOLT: Insert bolt in its hole and finger tighten both nuts. Be certain oval -neck of bolt engages recess in housing. Make sure that the locating collar is in the outlet hole. This may be checked by rocking the upper housing in the hole. Also make sure that the positioning lugs are properly aligned. 5. TIGHTEN NUTS: Tighten bolt nuts uniformly until the upper housing is in complete surface contact in the gasket pocket area and the assembly is rigid. Nuts must be tightened to 50 lb -ft. with even gaps between the bolt pads for Styles 920 and 929. Torque in excess of 50 lb. ft. is not desirable. NOTE: increased bolt torque will not improve sealing. 11110 STYLE 920 - MECHANICALT® PERFORMANCE DATA 69 MECHANICAL -T "CROSS" Cross connections can be achieved with Style 920 or 929 Mechanical T only by utilizing two Upper Housings of the same size, with the same or differing branch size connections. Assemble as above, being certain that Locating Col- lar on each side is securely positioned Inside the hole. Nuts must be tightened to 50 lb -ft. with even gaps between the bolt pads. NOTE: Alternate length bolts may be required for certain cross -type combi- nations. Contact Victaulic for details. IMPORTANT: If branch connection has been made to upper housing prior to Mechanical -T assembly, make certain this connection is at 90e to run prior to final tightening of Style 920 Of 929 Mechanical T.
