Every automatic sprinkler system shall have at least one automatic water supply. 2-2* Water Supply Requirements for Sprinkler Sy's tems. 2-2.1 Water Supply Requirement Tables. 2-2.1.1* Water supply requirement tables shall be used in determining the minimum water supply requirements for light, ordinary and extra hazard occupancies. Occupan- cy classification shall be determined from Section 1-7. (a) 'Table 2-2.1(A) is used to determine the minimum volume of water and pressure normally required for a pipe schedule sprinkler system. THE TABLE IS TO BE USED ONLY WITH EXPERIENCED JUDG- MENT. (b) Table 2-2.1(B) is used to determine the minimum volume of water and pressure normally required for a hydraulically designed sprinkler system. 2-2.1.2 The following shall be used in applying Table 2-2.1(B). 2-2.1.2.1 The densities 2-2.1(B) are based on standard orifice (1/2 in. sprinklers. ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS FIRE ALARM SCOPE OF WORK — SOUTHCENTER STORAGE (Job 1412) March 8, 2002 This is new construction, single building, 5 floors built into a sloping grade such that Basement 2 (lowest level) is completely under ground and Basement 1 (the only level with entry/exits) is partially exposed. There are 3 floors above ground for a total of 5 floors. Atronics is providing fire alarm (per Tukwilla Ordinance, Addressable System, Silent Knight 5820XL). The Head -End equipment (control panel) will be located on the uppermost of the two basement levels: B1. The headend of the Fire Alarm System (FACP and Communicator) to be located in the Electrical/Sprinkler Room that is accessed from the outside by door A3. The Fire Alarm Annunciator is to be located just outside the Office/Sales area, adjacent to the Electrical/Sprinkler Room. Keys to access the Electrical/Sprinkler Room in which FACP is located, to be in Knox Box (provided by others) mounted at the front (Office Entry) side of the building on floor B1. We recommend that the Fire Alarm system Riser be located to the West of the Westerly elevator. The Fire Alarm system riser requires (1) 3" conduit to run from B2 up to floor 3. Riser piping to be provided and installed by the electrical contractor. For the Fire Alarm System riser, electrical contractor to provide and install (1) 6X6 pull box at 6' off the finished floor on each of the five levels. Again, we request that if possible that these risers and associated boxes be placed to the west side of the most westerly of the two elevator shafts. Electrical contractor to provide and run conduit anywhere fire wire is to be run below 8' off the finished floor. Atronics to provide materials for complete and operational systems per requirements of local authority having jurisdiction. Atronics to provide and pull in Fire Alarm cable, and to trim devices, do head -end hookup, programming and test, and provide owner training on the use of the Fire Alarm system. Atronics to procure Fire Alarm Permit only. -Heat detectors for elevator shunt to be provided by electrical contractor -If there are any AHU rated at 2000 cfm or higher, the Mechanical Contractor will be required to provide and install duct detectors and the associated test/reset switch. These will need to be connected to Atronics Fire Alarm Control Panel for the purpose of Supervision, per City of Tukwilla Ordinance #1900, duct detectors to send supervisory signals only, no alarm. -Atronics is requesting copies of the drawings for elevator controls to facilitate the connection that will need to exist between them and the F.A.C.P. -Atronics is requesting drawings of the sprinkler riser as well, because again, we need to have a connection from the sprinkler devices to the F.A.C.P. In addition, as previously discussed Hose Connections for Fire Department use, per NFPA 13 1999, section 5-15.5, shall be installed on this project. We will allow the roof manifold to be deleted due to the standing seam roof construction method employed for this project. The Hose Connections are deemed necessary by the Fire Department, due to the limited access to the interior portions of the building via exterior openings for fire suppression efforts. Per NFPA #13 1996 edition section 1-4.2, definition of miscellaneous storage and the reference to section 1-4.7 which classifies this occupancy as ordinary hazard group ll, the required design density is .20 gprn over the most remote 1500 square feet. Per section 5- 2.3 the total hose allowance required is 250 gpm. The total demand for this system, not including overflow is .2 x 1500 = 300 gpm + 250 gpm total hose = 55Ogpm total system demand. Per WSRB recommendations the sprinkler system has been designed to provide .15 gpm over the most remote 5000 square feet. The total hose demand recommended is 750 gpm. The total demand for this system, not including overflow is .15 x 5000 = 750 gpm + 100 gpm for total hose allowance for a total system demand of 850 gpm. In conclusion the WSRB requirements exceed the NFPA total system demand requirements by 300 gpm so the hazard has been adequately protected per NFPA requirements. If SFS were to calculate the systems at the NFPA required density, rather than the WSRB recommended density, the calculation results with 250 gpm hose allowance would be far less hydraulically demanding than actual calculations shown with only 100 gpm added for total hose allowance.
