• Lateral sway bracing is required at a maximum spacing of 40' for all mains, cross
mains, and branch lines 2.5" and larger. Bracing is provided for the last length of
pipe but within 20' of the end of a feed or cross main. Bracing is required unless
all the pipe is supported by rods less than 6" or by 30 ° wrap-around U -hooks for
any size pipe, 9.3.5.3.
• Minimum clearance around pipes: 2 " for 1"-3.5", 4" for 4" and larger, see 4
exceptions, 9.3.4.
• Longitudinal sway bracing is a maximum of 80' for mains and cross mains and
within 40 ` of the end of the line, 9.3.5.4.
• Provide lateral and longitudinal bracing for changes in pipe direction per section
9.3.5.11.2.
• Restrain branch lines at the end sprinkler of each line, restrain against vertical
and lateral movement, 9.3.6.3.
• Restraints for branch lines shall be at intervals per table 9.3.6.4 and section
9.3.6.4, and restrain sprig ups greater than 4', 9.3.6.6.
• Comply with ASCE 7-02, section 9.6.2.6.2 (e).
• Ceilings used for flex drop attachments shall comply with ASTM C 635 and
ASTM C 636 per section 9.2.1.3.3.2.
• Where flexible sprinkler hose fittings exceed 6ft. in length and are supported by a
suspended ceiling, a hanger(s) attached to the structure shall be required to
ensure that the maximum unsupported length does not exceed 6 ft.(9.2.1.3.3.3).
• Provide sprinkler protection beneath all obstructions greater than 4 ft. in width.
• Extend sprinkler protection to all combustible concealed spaces.
• Comply with NFPA 13 obstruction tables.
• Sprinkler heads spaced closer than 6 ft. apart are required to be baffled.
All references are NFPA 13, 2007 Edition.

12. ALL MANUAL PULL STATIONS SHALL BE MOUNTED AT 48" A.F.F. TO THE
ACTIVATION DEVICE.
13. ALL PANEL NUMBERS AND CIRCUITS WILL BE ON THE RECORD DRAWINGS SET.
14. ALL 120VAC CIRCUITS ARE .FROM DEDICATED CIRCUITS FROM THE EMERGENCY
GENERATOR.
15. PER NFPA 72 SECTION 5-3.6.1.3 DETECTORS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL AFTER
THE CONSTRUCTION CLEAN-UP OF ALL TRADES IS COMPLETE AND FINAL.
EXCEPTION: WHERE REQUIRED BY THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION
_FOR PROTECTION DURING CONSTRUCTION.
DETECTORS THAT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED PRIOR TO FINAL CLEAN-UP BY ALL
TRADES SHALL BE CLEANED OR REPLACED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72

16. WIRING SHALL RUN CONTINUOUS FROM FACP TO FIRST DEVICE ON A CIRCUIT
AND THEN FROM DEVICE TO DEVICE WITHOUT SPLICING IN PULL BOXES OR
OTHER BACK BOXES OF DIFFERENT CIRCUITS.
17. ALL WIRING SHALL BE METERED, VERIFIED TO BE CONTINUOUS, FREE OF GROUND
AND FREE OF SHORTS BETWEEN CONDUCTORS AND OTHER CIRCUITS PRIOR TO
FINAL EQUIPMENT TRIM.
18. ALL CABLES SHALL BE MARKED AS INDICATED ON FIRE ALARM RISER WITH A
PERMANENT LABEL AT ALL DEVICES, JUNCTION BOXES AND FACP.
19. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN ALL DIRT AND DEBRIS FROM THE
OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE FIRE ALARM BACK BOXES AND JUNCTION BOXES
AFTER COMPLETION OF THEIR INSTALLATION.
20. DETECTORS MUST BE RATED FOR TEMPERATURE IN THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH
IT IS LOCATED.

• Lateral sway bracing is required at a maximum spacing of 40' for all mains, cross
mains, and branch lines 2.5" and larger. Bracing is provided for the last length of
pipe but within 20' of the end of a feed or cross main. Bracing is required unless
all the pipe is supported by rods less than 6" or by 30 ° wrap-around U -hooks for
any size pipe, 9.3.5.3.
• Minimum clearance around pipes: 2 " for 1"-3.5", 4" for 4" and larger, see 4
exceptions, 9.3.4.
• Longitudinal sway bracing is a maximum of 80' for mains and cross mains and
within 40 ` of the end of the line, 9.3.5.4.
• Provide lateral and longitudinal bracing for changes in pipe direction per section
9.3.5.11.2.
• Restrain branch lines at the end sprinkler of each line, restrain against vertical
and lateral movement, 9.3.6.3.
• Restraints for branch lines shall be at intervals per table 9.3.6.4 and section
9.3.6.4, and restrain sprig ups greater than 4', 9.3.6.6.
• Comply with ASCE 7-02, section 9.6.2.6.2 (e).
• Ceilings used for flex drop attachments shall comply with ASTM C 635 and
ASTM C 636 per section 9.2.1.3.3.2.
• Where flexible sprinkler hose fittings exceed 6ft. in length and are supported by a
suspended ceiling, a hanger(s) attached to the structure shall be required to
ensure that the maximum unsupported length does not exceed 6 ft.(9.2.1.3.3.3).
• Provide sprinkler protection beneath all obstructions greater than 4 ft. in width.
• Extend sprinkler protection to all combustible concealed spaces.
• Comply with NFPA 13 obstruction tables.
• Sprinkler heads spaced closer than 6 ft. apart are required to be baffled.

7. WIRING SHALL BE PER PLAN WITH RESPECT TO CONDUCTOR SIZE, & OR CABLE TRAY,
TYPE, QUANTITY AND COLOR CODE. CONDUCTORS SHALL BE PERMANENTLY,
AND UNIQUELY MARKED FOR FUTURE IDENTIFICATION.
8. INSTALLING CONTRACTOR SHALL RETURN ONE SET OF ACCURATELY MARKED
DRAWINGS FOR "AS BUILT" PURPOSES.
9. FOR ADDITIONAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, REFER TO CATALOG CUT
SHEETS AND/OR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.
10. THE 120vac POWER ELECTRICAL WORK SUPPLYING FIRE ALARM SYSTEM PANELS
MUST COMPLY WITH ARTICLE 725 AND 760 OF NFPA 70, N.E.C. AND NFPA 72,
SPECIFICALLY SECTION 1-5.2.5.2: IN REFERENCE TO DEDICATED BRANCH POWER
SOURCES. 120vac POWER SHALL NOT BE APPLIED TO FIRE ALARM PANEL WITHOUT
DIRECT SUPERVISION OF FIRE ALARM TECHNICIAN.
11. ALL HORN/STROBE AND STROBE DEVICES SHALL BE MOUNTED AT A HEIGHT
OF 80" A.F.F. OR 6" BELOW DROPPED CEILING, WHICHEVER IS LESS.
12. ALL MANUAL PULL STATIONS SHALL BE MOUNTED AT 48" A.F.F. TO THE
ACTIVATION DEVICE. -
13. ALL PANEL NUMBERS AND CIRCUITS WILL BE ON THE RECORD DRAWINGS SET.
14. ALL 120VAC CIRCUITS ARE FROM DEDICATED CIRCUITS FROM THE EMERGENCY
GENERATOR.
15. PER NFPA 72 SECTION 5-3.6.1.3 DETECTORS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL AFTER
THE CONSTRUCTION CLEAN-UP OF ALL TRADES IS COMPLETE AND FINAL.
EXCEPTION: WHERE REQUIRED BY THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION
FOR PROTECTION DURING CONSTRUCTION.
DETECTORS THAT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED PRIOR TO FINAL CLEAN-UP BY ALL
TRADES SHALL BE CLEANED OR REPLACED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72
CHAPTER 7.
16. WIRING SHALL RUN CONTINUOUS FROM FACP TO FIRST DEVICE ON A CIRCUIT
AND THEN FROM DEVICE TO DEVICE WITHOUT SPLICING IN PULL BOXES OR
OTHER BACK BOXES OF DIFFERENT CIRCUITS.
17. ALL WIRING SHALL BE METERED, VERIFIED TO BE CONTINUOUS, FREE OF GROUND
AND FREE OF SHORTS BETWEEN CONDUCTORS AND OTHER CIRCUITS PRIOR TO
FINAL EQUIPMENT TRIM. -
18. ALL CABLES SHALL BE MARKED AS INDICATED ON FIRE ALARM RISER WITH A
PERMANENT LABEL AT ALL DEVICES, JUNCTION BOXES AND FACP.
19. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN ALL DIRT AND DEBRIS FROM THE
OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE FIRE ALARM BACK BOXES AND JUNCTION BOXES
AFTER COMPLETION OF THEIR INSTALLATION.
20. DETECTORS MUST BE RATED FOR TEMPERATURE IN THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH
IT IS LOCATED.
21. ALL WIRING BETWEEN FLOORS SHALL BE LOCATED IN CONDUIT.
22. NFPA 72 2007 6.4.2.2.2 ALL STYLES OF CLASS A CIRCUITS USING
PHYSICAL CONDUCTORS (E.G., METALLIC, OPTICAL FIBER) SHALL BE
INSTALLED SUCH THAT THE OUTGOING AND RETURN CONDUCTORS, EXITING
FROM AND RETURNING TO THE CONTROL UNIT, RESPECTIVELY, ARE
ROUTED SEPARATELY. THE OUTGOING AND RETURN (REDUNDANT) CIRCUIT
CONDUCTORS SHALL NOT BE RUN IN THE SAME CABLE ASSEMBLY (I.E.,
MULTI -CONDUCTOR CABLE), ENCLOSURE, OR RACEWAY.

NFPA 72 2007 A.6.4.2.2.2 A GOAL OF 6.4.2.2.2 IS TO PROVIDE
ADEQUATE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE OUTGOING AND RETURN CABLES.
THIS SEPARATION IS REQUIRED TO HELP ENSURE PROTECTION OF THE
CABLES FROM PHYSICAL DAMAGE. THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM
SEPARATION TO PREVENT PHYSICAL DAMAGE IS 305 MM (1 FT) WHERE
THE CABLE IS INSTALLED VERTICALLY AND 1.22 M (4 FT) WHERE THE
CABLE IS INSTALLED
