It is noted that the sprinkler system modifications shown are to Zone T1 fed from the West Riser Room. The following was reviewed: • Fire Sprinkler Drawings — Sheets FP -1 and FP -2 dated 2/2008 • Hydraulic Calculations dated 2/26/08 The documents were reviewed for compliance with the 2007 NFPA 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems and Tukwila Municipal Code Chapter 16.42, Sprinkler Systems. I have found the fire sprinkler design to be acceptable subject to the following comments: 1. Provide sprinkler coverage in the closet located at approximately gridline 3/J.10. 2. Ensure a supply of spare sprinklers of the type utilized is available at the facility per 2007 NFPA 13 Para 6.2.9. 3. Hydraulic calculations indicate the coverage per sprinkler is 130 SF, which would correspond to 26 GPM minimum for a 0.20 GPM/SF density. However, the Node Analysis Data on page 2 shows numerous sprinklers flowing less than 26 GPM. If the actual area coverage per sprinkler is being used to determine the minimum sprinkler discharge, the areas should be shown in the calculations. Otherwise, it is recommended the calculations be revised for 26 GPM minimum flow per sprinkler. A resubmittal to Tuazon Enaineerina is not required provided the above are resolved to the satisfaction of Tukwila Fire Department. The comments made above do not relieve the contractor from compliance with requirements of contract drawings, specifications, or codes. Tuazon Engineering has performed a detailed review of the submittal for general conformance with the standards referenced. Drawing indicates new and relocated pendent sprinkler heads installed on an existing sprinkler system for tenant improvement work. I have found the fire sprinkler design to be acceptable with the following comments: 1. Proposed sprinkler layout shows quick response,'/" orifice sprinkler heads with Ordinary Hazard spacing. Pipe sizing and number of sprinklers per branchline satisfy the original hydraulic design and is in compliance with NFPA 13 requirements. No exceptions noted. 2. FPE Note: The tenant space is protected by System #T1 in the West Fire Riser Room in the newer area the mall. This system is hydraulically calculated to provide 0.20 GPM/SF over the remote 1,500 SF using %" orifice sprinkler heads installed at 130 SF maximum spacing in accordance with Ordinary Hazard Group II per NFPA 13. The original calculations had a 14 sprinkler heads fed from 1.5" diameter branchline piping. A resubmittal to Tuazon Engineering is not required provided the above are resolved to the satisfaction of Tukwila Fire Department. The following was reviewed: • Fire Sprinkler Drawings — Sheets FP -1 and FP -2 dated 2/2008 • Hydraulic Calculations dated 2/26/08 The documents were reviewed for compliance with the 2007 NFPA 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems and Tukwila Municipal Code Chapter 16.42, Sprinkler Systems. I have found the fire sprinkler design to be acceptable subject to the following comments: 1. Provide sprinkler coverage in the closet located at approximately gridline 3/J.10. 2. Ensure a supply of spare sprinklers of the type utilized is available at the facility per 2007 NFPA 13 Para 6.2.9. 3. Hydraulic calculations indicate the coverage per sprinkler is 130 SF, which would correspond to 26 GPM minimum for a 0.20 GPM/SF density. However, the Node Analysis Data on page 2 shows numerous sprinklers flowing less than 26 GPM. If the actual area coverage per sprinkler is being used to determine the minimum sprinkler discharge, the areas should be shown in the calculations. Otherwise, it is recommended the calculations be revised for 26 GPM minimum flow per sprinkler. A resubmittal to Tuazon Enaineerina is not required provided the above are resolved to the satisfaction of Tukwila Fire Department.
