Allan Ekberg, Mayor
The City Administrator Report is meant to provide the Council, staff and community an update on
the activities of the City and on issues that concern Tukwila. Please let me know if you have any
questions or need additional information about any of the following items.
I. Intergovernmental Update
• Meeting with Legislative Members: On December 15 City Administrator Cline participated in
a meeting with State Representative Tina Orwell, Port Commissioner Hamdi Mohamed, staff
from Representative Adam Smith's Office and State Senator Karen Keiser's Office, city
managers and representatives from Burien, SeaTac, Normandy Park and Des Moines,
regarding Port funding for noise insulation packages. Representative Orwell and
Commissioner Mohamed provided background on an effort to expand this funding to include
more individuals.
II. Community Events
• Spirit of Giving Event: The Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Rotary
Club of SeaTac-Tukwila and the Tukwila School District held the annual Spirit of Giving on
December 10. With generous donations from local businesses and community members, care
packages were provided for 117 families and their 249 children.
• Stewardship: Restoration at Riverton had a successful planting event. Volunteers joined staff
Olena Perry and resident Steward Debbie Gordon, for two hours of planting fun. The crew
planted 60+ native plants and came up with a new system for mulching small ground covers.
The section of the park that was planted recently had been covered by 20 -year-old ivy, the
new forest will be full of Sword Fern, Fringe Cup, Red Flowering Currant, Cascara, Woodland
Strawberry and Oxalis.
111. Staff Updates
Public Safety
• Partnership with Local Businesses: Starbucks donated 90 boxes of coffee beans to the
Tukwila Justice Center for distribution to community members in need. They also partnered

with the Tukwila Police Department for Coffee with a Cop and other community outreach
programs. McDonald's on Southcenter Parkway donated gift cards for Tukwila Police officers
to hand out to kids. As part of these efforts, last month, police department staff attended a
regional McDonald's managers meeting to talk about issues common to both service industry
and retail establishments in the region such as dealing with disorderly individuals,
homelessness, trespassing and other topics public safety topics that are commonly brought
up as concerns.
• Meeting with SHAG: As part of the City's ongoing efforts to resolve issues with SHAG
management and residents, on December 15 Police Department personnel met with SHAG
residents to discuss information about creating a Community Safety Committee. Additional
meetings are set for January 2023.
Project Updates
• 2022 Annual Overlay Program: Estimated Completion: Spring 2023
Due to weather constraints, thermoplastic crosswalks and stop bars cannot be placed until
Spring 2023. Temporary markings have been placed and will be maintained during the
winter. Minor punch list items remain as well.
• 2023 Annual Overlay Program: Estimated Completion: Fall 2023
Consultant is reviewing pavement conditions along with other City projects/programs to
develop a 5 -year priority list for blocks to include in the overlay program moving forward.
The 2023 project is expected to be publicly advertised in early Spring 2023 with construction
starting in the summer.
• Athletics and Enrichment Programs: 2022 has been a successful year. Staff were able to
reintroduce several athletic programs including volleyball, basketball, and pickleball. Youth
Athletics had 1267 total participant units, Adult Athletics had 3528 total visits and Youth and
Enrichment programming had a total of 1924 units of participation.

• Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2023.

property.
Notice of Violation and Order (NOVO) against the
property, the property owner installed erosion control
in January, 2022. The owner has not stabilized the site
and the erosion control has since failed. Code
Enforcement issued another NOVO on November 15,
2022 which the owner has appealed. DCD last met with
the owner and his consultants on December 20, 2022.
The H.S. Estates team is actively working on finding a
contractor and expects to begin work shortly.
