Frequently Support is asked if a 10 AH or two 7 AH Batteries can be installed on a 7788F or 7744F to increase back-up capacity. The Technical Specifications on page 7 of the Installation and Operation Manual for the 7744F and 7788F lists: - BACK-UP BATTERY : 12V, 7.5AH (min) (24 Hour standby) - VOLTAGE: 12VDC nominal - CURRENT: 150 mA standby; 1.2A transmit - CURRENT with 7067/7770: 210 mA standby; 1.3A transmit And on page 10: Backup Battery requirement, Commercial Fire • Central Station Fire Signaling (24hr): use a 12V, 7.5 AH battery • Remote Station Fire Signaling (24hr): use a 12V, 7.5 AH battery 7.5 AH as stated in the Technical Specifications is a minimum. If longer back-up capacity is desired, a larger battery may be used. Installing a single 10 AH, two 7 AH, two 7.5 AH or two 10 AH is acceptable. These batteries and combinations have been tested to fully charge within 24 hours. To prepare for the UL Listing evaluation, testing was performed on a 7788F as follows. A fully charged 7788F with a 7.5 AH Battery was put into AC fault and a zone was activated via an auto cycling dry contact every 5 seconds. The "NTR RPT DLY " was reduced to 0 to accommodate the frequent new Packet transmission attempts. The 7788F was operated in this state for 24 hours. The AC was then restored and allowed to charge the 7788F for 48 Hours. Then AC was again removed and operated sending the Alarm and Restore every 5 seconds for another 24 hours. The 7788F and 7744F successfully passed this test on multiple attempts and on multiple units. The intent of describing the test above is to give you confidence that a 7.5 AH battery should operate a 7744F or 7788F in a normal installation where the "NTR RPT DLY " is typically set to 10 and provide sufficient capacity for 24 Hours of operation without AC. In addition the following information was offered by the Director or Operations for AES back on March of 2011. Refer to attached Technical Bulletin 7788battcalc R2.PDF.
