Posts and curbs are to be painted yellow. • All control, drain, and test connections valves shall be provided with permanently marked weather-proof metal or rigid plastic identification signs. • Provide a spare head and wrench box at the riser. • Comply with obstructed/non-obstructed construction rules for sprinkler head placement. • Sprinkler heads spaced closer than 6 ft. apart must be baffled. • Modifications involving 20 or more sprinkler heads require hydrostatic test and system isolation if necessary. • For dry pipe and double interlock preaction systems in addition to the standard hydrostatic test, an air pressure leakage test at 40 psi shall be conducted for 24 hours. Any leakage that results in a loss of pressure in excess of 1.5 psi for the 24 hours shall be corrected. I have found the fire sprinkler design to be acceptable with the following comments. Water supply information was provided by Smith Fire Systems, Inc. who received the flow data from the Tukwila Water Department based on a 05/23/2013 flow test on 134th Place to the south of the site. May 1, 2015 Smith Fire Systems, Inc. has selected the correct design criteria from NFPA 13 for high -piled combustible storage based on their description of the commodity and its storage arrangement: Spec warehouse Maximum storage height 27-9", Maximum ceiling height 29ft, - Commodity classification can be Class I-IV encapsulated or non -encapsulated, Group A plastic exposed unexpanded or cartoned unexpanded on racks with no solid shelves or palletized/solid piled on floor with no open top containers. This design could also protect cartoned expanded Group A plastics based on Table 17.2.3.1 as well as idle pallets to 25ft per Table 12.12.2.2.3. - Storage can be on single double or multiple row racks with no solid shelves or palletized/solid piled based on the ESFR design stated. The selected design criteria of 12 ESFR sprinklers, K16.8, at a minimum pressure of 35psi plus 250GPM hose allowance is selected from Table 16.2.3.1 and/or Table 17.2.3.1. The City of Tukwila Municipal Code (TMC) calls for a minimum design criteria of 0.39GPM/5,600sf plus 1000GPM for in rack sprinkler allowance. The minimum criteria in the TMC is exceeded by this design. The TMC requires a minimum cushion in the hydraulic calculations of lOpsi. A cushion of 10.6 psi is shown on the calculations. The underground supply piping and yard FDC are "by others" and are not a part of this review. The TMC sets a maximum velocity in the sprinkler system pipe of 32ft/sec and maximum velocity in the underground supply piping of 16ft/sec. The hydraulic calculations show a maximum velocity of 1.3ft/sec in the system piping and 8.7ft/sec in the underground supply. This review assumes that the building trusses are designed such that ESFR obstruction rules are not violated and sprinklers are installed with their deflectors positioned with respect to the ceiling in accordance with NFPA 13. The comments made above do not presume to relieve the contractor from compliance with requirements of contract drawings, specifications, codes or standards. The FPI has performed a review of the submittal for general conformance with the standards referenced.
