V. Business Items
• Stacey Hansen from Human Services provided an overview of programs &
services for Tukwila residents only. The Commission was informed of the
2019- 2020 funded programs as it relates to wellness (physical, behavioral,
dental, well-being), housing, food security and support for independence. In
total, Human Services funded 34 programs.
• Additional information was provided on the temporary homeless
encampments (Tent City 3). 50 campers including 1 family will stay from
September 7 through December 2, 2019. Encampments rotate between various
host properties and have managers and a code of conduct for residents.
• The State of Washington has authorized religious organizations to host
temporary encampments and limits a local governments ability to regulate
encampments. (RCW 36.01.290) for counties, (35A.21.360) for code cities,
and (35.21.915) for other cities and towns.
• City of Tukwila will coordinate logistics meetings to go over safety protocols.
City staff across departments will attend and continue to stay engaged for the
duration of the visit.
