The new windows and doors will be the same size and installed along their perimeters in the same configuration as the originals. Rough opening sizes will remain unchanged. The replacement of existing windows should have no effect on the gravitational loads acting on the building; Similarly, the structural components of this building will not rely on the widows to resist any lateral loads. The windows only resist out of plane wind forces and are important because they enclose the building, regulating interior pressures. Newer windows undergo higher levels of testing and are required to perform better under simulated loading conditions. We have not performed any analysis to determine the structural adequacy of the existing building. We do not see any structural issue with the replacement of the existing windows and sliding doors, provided the windows are installed by a licensed and bonded window installer and the windows are installed per the manufacturers specifications. Yen Design, Inc. must be notified immediately if site conditions are found to vary from the information presented in the letter because additional analysis and design may be necessary.
