There are no hydraulic placards on the risers but I able to get the original design density from WSRB, here is what I am proposing to them let me know your thoughts. Our examination of the existing fire system at the above address revealed that it is an older system that has been hydraulically calculated to a design density of .39/5600, with 17/32" orifice 165° sprinklers and would allow storage of class I to IV commodity to a height of less than Sixteen feet. Your proposed storage of Automotive parts and accessories Mostly plastic (HDPE) and rubber parts, Cartoned on wooden pallets is a group A Plastic commodity. The remainder of your products falls into the category of Class I — IV. Per NFPA 13 section 5.6.1.2 Mixed commodities, would only allow us to design the system to the lower commodity if the higher commodity class was limited to up to 10 pallet loads. The storage of plastics and rubber appears to exceed this limit and is more in the range of 70% of the storage. The system should then be designed for the storage of Group A plastics. NFPA 13: Figure 17.2.1.2.1 (d) storage of plastics to 20' with 5 —10 feet clearance to the ceiling or roof. Note 2. Ceiling only protection shall not be permitted for this storage configuration except where K-11.2 or larger orifice spray sprinklers listed for storage use are installed. In -rack sprinklers shall not be required, provided the the ceiling discharge criterion is increased to .6 Gpm over 2000 square foot. The existing sprinklers are 17/32" orifice 8K uprights which are good for up to a .33 density thus these sprinklers must be changed to an 11.2K sprinkler at a minimum. This would require hydraulic calculations, changing out the sprinklers and possibly some existing pipe may have to be upsized. Of note: the IFC (International Fire Code) chapter 910 says for high piled storage of class I-IV commodity above twelve feet or plastic commodities above five foot, the building is required to have automatic smoke and heat vents. The building does not have these smoke vents and they will be required by the city of Tukwila. Per IFC 9.10.1 exception#2, when the building is protected with ESFR sprinklers then smoke and heat vents are not required. exception#3, when the building is protected with CMSA sprinklers then smoke and heat vents are not required. ARCHITECTURAL COMMENTS 1. NO COMMENTS STRUCTURAL COMMENTS 1.The egress plan only shows one qualifying emergency exit. Group B, F and S occupancies in buildings equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 shall have a maximum exit access travel distance of 100 feet. The exit travel distance on sheet RH4.0 shows up to 192 feet travel distance. The other portions of that tenant space do not clearly show any other exits or exit doors. Also, the scale on the drawing is not consistent with any scale ruler for verification of areas. Based on the dimensions shown the space exceeds the occupant Toad of 29 which also requires two exits. Please provide clarification with actual scaled drawings showing all doorways, exits and name all adjoining spaces. (IBC TABLE 1004.1.2, 1005.4, TABLE 1006.2.1, and 1006.3.2(2) Note b.) The drawing has been updated to include all the doors at the front of the building and the egress path has been updated to reflect this. 2.Show on the plan specific egress paths leading to the exits with emergency illuminations in compliance with IBC 1008. Egress path on page RH4.0 has been updated for path of travel to closest exits. FIRE PROTECTION COMMENTS 1.The plans mention storage of floor liners and splash guards. These products are typically made of rubber and or plastic, not necessarily metal. Also, tire storage is mentioned but there are no details provided on the manner of storage. Tire storage must meet the specific requirements of NFPA 13, chapter 18. There are no details provided of the existing fire sprinkler system density or temperature rating of the sprinkler heads. Floor liners and splash guards will be stored on the ground, not to exceed 5ft There was also a mix up and there will not be any tires stored in this facility. The storage meant was to be chrome wheels. Fire Sprinkler density and temperature at the heads have been included to page RH1.0 of the plans.
