April 11, 2013

Meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m.
OLD BUSINESS
The minutes from the February 7, 2013 and March 7, 2013 meetings were reviewed and approved.
Moved by Joan Hernandez â seconded by Nate Robinson .
NEW BUSINESS
Brenna introduced Carol Kolson, the newly appointed Director of the Southwest King County Chamber
of Commerce. Commission members introduced themselves and provided a brief background of their
experience on the Commission and with the City and thanked her for being at the meeting.
Joyce provided the Commissioners with an update of the Strategic Planning Process. The Council and
Executive staff conducted a joint workshop on March 28th to develop the City's priorities for 2013. One
of the priority areas addresses the need for reducing crime along Tukwila International Boulevard, and
the City is holding a public hearing on April 22 to discuss a proposed conde conation ordinance, that
would give the City authority to condemn and purchase properties in this area.
OLD BUSINESS
Mary shared information about her work at Dr. Seuss night at TCC â she met with a lot of kids and
parents and was able to share many of the magnets provided by Equity and Diversity. She felt the
interaction was good, and looks forward to greater by the Commission at next year's event.
Joan thanked Nate Robinson for the excellent presentation by Teens for Tukwila, at a recent Council
meeting. Nate shared that many in the group also went to Olympia recently, to meet with legislators.
The Legislative Youth Advisory Council (teens from around the State) as well as legislators, heard the
presentation by Tukwila teens, and were very impressed.
MISC.
The group discussed the East African Business workshop that was held recently â a joint meeting with
the City of SeaTac and City of Tukwila, to share information and understand more about some of the
small businesses, many located along Tukwila International Blvd.
Nate shared that ReWa is holding a Somali Services Coalition open house on May 15tâ the focus will be
on classes and activities, and targets the refugee and immigrant community.
Joan asked that any upcoming Cinco de Mayo events be communicated to the entire group.
