MINUTES
December 6, 2012
PRESENT: Joan Hernandez, Aaron Draganov, Mary Hulvey, Nate Robinson
ABSENT: Carolyn Barge, Verna Seal, Kathleen Gantz, Mellody Matthes, Brenna Arnesen,
Charlie Penor
STAFF: Mary Hulvey (sitting in for Joyce Trantina)
Meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m.
OLD BUSINESS
The minutes from the September 6, 2012 meeting will be reviewed at the January meeting.
Group would like to review the 2012 Budget and 2013-2014 projects. Joyce will provide a summary at
the January meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
• The group discussed the need to extend community outreach to the whole community (not just
refugees and immigrants). There are groups of English speaking residents that seem to fall
through the cracks. This may be something the Commission can consider as it develops
opportunity areas for next year.
• Joan suggested the group consider supporting the Centennial Military Road Project.
• Aaron's students are asking to see the map we had at the Cultural Heritage Event.
Unfortunately, the map had to be "disassembled", but Joyce will try to locate photos for the
class.
• We will ask Joyce to update the group on the Strategic Plan at the January meeting.
• The group would also like an update from Verna on the Dream Act.
• Nomination for Chair, Mary Hulvey - Vice -Chair, Aaron Draganov
We will take further nominations and discussion for these roles at the January meeting.
• Nate Robinson would like to be considered as a member of the Commission, and will submit his
application form to Joyce for processing.
• The Police Explorers would like to attend the February meeting to express their thanks for the
Equity and Diversity Commission grant they received.
