HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 0210 - 1951 Employee Benefits - Pensions and RetirementORDINANCE NO 210 An ordinance relating to pensions and retirement for employees of the City of Tukwila for extending the benefits of Title 11 of the Federal Social Security Act to the employees of the City of Tukwila authorizing a contract with the Washington State Department of EMployment Security and providing funds for such coverage BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF TUKWILA WASHINGTON TEE Security- Act has been emended by the Congress of the United States as to permit political subdivisions of the several states to extend to their employees and officers the benefits of old age and aurvivorat insurance, and The Legislature of the state of 'washington has enacted a statute known as Chapter 184, Laws of 1951 141ich enables the political sub- divisions of the State of Washington to take all action necessary to effectuate the coverage of their employees and officers under said old ago and survivors' insurance system, and It is the opinion of the Torn Ceencii that the extension of this Social Security System will be of great benefit not only to the em- ployee of the municipality but to the tiuiiicipality by attracting to it and enabling it to retain the best of personnel ana this increase the efficiency of its government, an it is deemed that the payment by the municipality of its portion of the cost of eai se stem is a payment for a municipal purpose. BOW, THEREFORE, BE IT QR )AINi T by the Town Council of LuL ila that this municipality become a participant in the Social Security System and that the benefits of old ale and survivors' insurance be extended to its employees and officers. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the _:;ayor and the Town Clerk are author ised to execute and deliver to the ashington Department of Employment Security for its approval the plan or plans required under the provis- ions of Section 5 of said enabling; act and of the Social security Act to extend coverage to the employees and officers of this :Municipality ee,3. and to do all other things necessary to that end. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper fiscal officers be and they are hereby authorized to make all required payments into tie Contri- bution Fund established by the said enabling act and to establish such system of pairoll deductions from the salaries of employees and officers as y be necessary to their coverage under said old ace and survivors' insurance system* BE IT FURTHeei RESOLVED that the proper of d icials of tie municipality do all things necessary to the continued implementation of said system. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this municipality become a participant in the Social Security System effective as of January 1, 1951 Approved this 5th day of November 1951 Mayor Chas O.
