PERMIT CONDITIONS: 1: The attached set of mechanical plans have been reviewed by The Tukwila Fire Marshals Office and are acceptable with the following concerns: 2: H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require auto -shutdown devices. These devices shall be separately zoned in the alarm panel and local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance #2437) 3: H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings shall be equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the power source of the air -moving equipment upon detection of smoke in the main return -air duct served by such equipment. Smoke detectors shall be labeled by an approved agency for air -duct installation and shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (IMC 606.1, 606.2.1) 4: Remote indicator lights are required on all above ceiling smoke detectors. (City Ordinance #2437) 5: Duct detectors shall send a supervisory signal only upon activation. (City Ordinance #2437) 6: All new fire alarm systems or modifications to existing systems shall have the written approval of The Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No work shall commence until a fire department permit has been obtained. (City Ordinance #2437) (IFC 901.2) 7: An electrical permit from the City of Tukwila Building Department Permit Center (206-431-3670) is required for this project. 11: Sprinkler coverage around unit heaters needs to comply with section 8.3.2.5 and figure 8.3.2.5 of NFPA 13 (2016 edition). 8: Contact The Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests. Final inspection approval will be determined by the building inspector based on satisfactory completion of this requirement. 16: All plumbing and gas piping work shall be inspected and approved under a separate permit issued by the City of Tukwila Building Department (206-431-3670). 17: All electrical work shall be inspected and approved under a separate permit issued by the City of Tukwila Permit Center. 18: VALIDITY OF PERMIT: The issuance or granting of a permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any other ordinances of the City of Tukwila. Comment: 6/21/2018 2:59:49 PM H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require auto - shutdown devices. These devices shall be separately zoned in the alarm panel and local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance #2437) Response: Duct smoke detectors are not required. See response to item 2 below. 2. Comment: 6/21/2018 2:59:49 PM H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings shall be equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the power source of the air -moving equipment upon detection of smoke in the main return -air duct served by such equipment. Smoke detectors shall be labeled by an approved agency for air -duct installation and shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (IMC 606.1, 606.2.1) Response: Per the 2015 IMC code commentary, IMC section 606.1, duct smoke detectors are not required in 100% outside air supply systems and exhaust only systems. Units RTU -1 and RTU -2 are 100% outside air units with energy recovery. The energy recovery air does not directly communicate with the 100% outside air therefore does not contribute to the movement of smoke and does not require smoke detectors. A drawing note has been added to sheet M11-01. 2015 IMC Code and Commentary Section 606 Also, it is not the intent of Section 606 to require duct smoke detectors in systems that function only as exhaust systems or only as makeup air supply sys- tems. A makeup air supply system that discharges 100 -percent outdoor air into a building does not with- draw air from the building and, therefore, cannot con- tribute to the movement of smoke. Likewise, an exhaust -only system discharges all air to the out- doors and, therefore, in most circumstances will not contribute to the movement of smoke into other areas of the building.
