Partition walls attached to ceiling grid must be laterally braced if over eight (8) feet in length. 10. Approved shop drawings for prefabricated plywood web joists shall be on site and available to the building inspector for inspection purposes. Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. (UFC 12.104b) Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114. EXIT signs shall be installed at required exit doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a contrasting color with the surrounding area and shall have letters not less than six inches high with a minimum letter width of 3/4". (UFC 12.114a & 12.114b) 2. All modifications to sprinkler systems shall have the written approval of the Washington Surveying & Rating Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk Insurers, then by the Fire Department. (UFC 10 401) All interior wall covering materials shall be fire -resistive or shall be treated to be fire -resistive, so as to result in a flame -spread rating as required by UFC Appendix VI -C tables 42A and 42B. A certificate of the flame spread rating is required to be delivered to the Tukwila Fire Department. A request must be made at least 24 hours in advance by calling the phone number listed next to the desired inspection. You should have the following infor- mation available when calling in your request: •Permit Number •Type of Inspection •Site Address/Suite # •Project Name A pre -construction meeting may be scheduled prior to starting the job by con- tacting the Building Division at 433-1849. Although this is not required for all construction, a meeting of this type can often eliminate problems, delays and misunderstandings as the project progresses. General Information/Requirements • All permits, inspection cards and plans shall be posted conspicuously in the same location, protected from weather or damage from construction work. • Work (including demolition) shall not start until the required permits are ., issued, unless otherwise formally approved by the Building Official. • Work shall not be done on any part of the building or structure beyond the point indicated on each successive inspection without first obtaining the approval of the building official or his agents. Such approval shall be given only after an inspection has been made on each successive step as spe- cified on the inspection record. • Unauthorized occupancy and/or use of the structure or remodeled area shall not occur until the Building Inspector completes the "Building Final" sign - off inspection. • No changes shall be made to the approved plans without approval of the Architect/Engineer and the Tukwila Building Division. • Special inspections will be required as specified in Section 306 of the Uniform Building Code as follows: 1. Concrete 2. Ductile moment -resisting concrete frame 3. Reinforcing steel and prestressing steel 4. Welding 5. High-strength bolting 6. Structural masonry 7. Reinforced gypsum concrete 8. The following revisions or additions to the design as shown would qualify the protection for improved rates based upon information shown on these plans: Arrangements should be made to allow a representative of this Bureau to complete a cover inspection of all piping before it is concealed by building construction, and to witness tests of the local water motor alarm and sprinkler supply test pipe. Completed copies of the Contractor's Material and Test Certificates for both the overhead and underground piping should be submitted to this Bureau. All piping, valves, and fittings should be listed and labeled by UL for fire service and installed, tested, and flushed in accordance with NFPA standards. Wet pipe sprinkler equipment is acceptable subject to provision of a thermostatically controlled heating system capable of maintaining temperatures at not less than 40 degrees F in all spaces containing wet pipe sprinkler equipment. 1. Acceptance is subject to spacing of sprinklers reduced to 8 ft. between heads running perpendicular to trusses and 10 ft. between lines, with a full stagger, using a pendant head in the upright position below T.J.I. construction if T.J.I.'s exceed 14 inches in depth or securing plasterboard to the bottom of the T.J.I.'s and fire -stopping all penetrations through the joists with material equivalent to the web construction. Dry pendent heads should not be installed in the upright position. 2. Extend sprinkler protection to blind spaces above ceilings if areas contain combustible construction, insulation, plastic drain plumbing, motorized equipment, wiring not in conduit, or if used as a return air plenum, and to all areas including exterior eaves, soffits, and canopies, and to filter compartments of heating and air conditioning equipment, intermediate levels of storage racks, and to roof skylights. 3. Provide complete hanger details. 4. Provide earthquake sway bracing at each flexible coupling in horizontal piping at least every 40 ft. and longitudinal braces every 80 ft. along feed and cross mains. Provide ACCEPTED complete details of earthquake sway bracing including locations of bracing and calculations indicating that the sway bracing is capable of withstanding the forces as stipulated in article 3-5.3.5.1 and appendix A-3-5.3.5.1 of NFPA 13(1989). 5. Provide sleeve with minimum 2 in. clearance around supply mains through concrete floors and around piping through masonry walls or partitions. 6. Install 212 degree sprinklers in blind roof space. 7. Pipe all drains to a safe point of discharge outside. If it is absolutely necessary to discharge drains to floor drains inside the building, the floor drain should be capable of accepting the full discharge of the main drain and test pipe when fully open. Completed copies of the Contractor's Material and Test Certificates for both the overhead and underground piping should be submitted to this Bureau. All piping, valves, and fittings should be listed and labeled by UL for fire service and installed, tested, and flushed in accordance with NFPA standards. Wet pipe sprinkler equipment is acceptable subject to the installation of a thermostatically controlled heating system capable of maintaining temperatures at not less than 40 degrees F in all spaces containing wet pipe sprinkler equipment. 1. Spacing of sprinklers should be reduced to 8 ft. between heads and 10 ft. between lines, with a full stagger, using a pendant head in the upright position below T.J.I. construction if T.J.I.'s exceed 14 inches in depth. 2. Extend sprinkler protection to blind spaces above ceilings if areas contain combustible construction, insulation, plastic drain plumbing, motorized equipment, wiring not in conduit, or if used as a return air plenum, and to all areas including exterior eaves, soffits, and canopies, and to filter compartments of heating and air conditioning equipment, intermediate levels of storage racks, and to roof skylights. 3. Provide complete hanger details. 4. Provide earthquake sway bracing at each flexible coupling in horizontal piping at least every 40 ft. and longitudinal braces every 80 ft. along feed and cross mains. Provide complete details of earthquake sway bracing including locations of bracing and calculations indicating that the sway bracing is capable of withstanding the forces as stipulated in article 3-5.3.5.1 and appendix A- 3-5.3.5.1 of NFPA 13(1989). 5. Provide sleeve with minimum 2 in. clearance around supply main piping through masonry walls or partitions. 6. Install 212 degree sprinklers in blind roof space. 7. Pipe all drains to a safe point of discharge outside. If it is absolutely necessary to discharge drains to floor drains inside the building, the floor drain should be capable of accepting the full discharge of the main drain and test pipe when fully open. Pipe drain from water motor alarm gong outside, not into the 2 inch drain line. 8. Provide details of type of pendent sprinklers with escutcheons being installed below the ceilings.
