SUBJECT: City Administrator's Report
The City Administrator Report is meant to provide the Council, staff and community an update on
the activities of the City and on issues that concern Tukwila. Please let me know if you have any
questions or need additional information about any of the following items.
I. Intergovernmental Update
• PSRFA Governance Board Meeting: Councilmember McLeod and City Administrator Cline
participated in a Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Governance Board (PSRFA) meeting on
March 15.
• WCMA Past Presidents Council Meeting: City Administrator Cline facilitated a meeting of the
Washington City Management Association (WCMA) Past Presidents Council on March 17.
• Sound Cities Association Mayors Meeting: Mayor Ekberg participated in a Sound Cities
Association Mayors meeting on March 21.
• National League of Cities Congressional City Conference: Mayor Ekberg and
Councilmember Kruller attended the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference
March 24-28.
• Washington State Transportation Improvement Board Meeting: On March 23 City
Administrator Cline offered welcoming remarks to the Washington State Transportation
Improvement Board and gave a presentation about Tukwila projects supported by the Board.
II. Community Events
• Friends of the Hill and Green Tukwila staff kicked off the 2023 work party season at
Duwamish Hill Preserve. The work party removed blackberry, talked about pollinators, and a
Northern Alligator Lizard was spotted during the event.
• Green Tukwila Partnership's Earth Month Opportunities: Tukwila will be offering a little
bit of everything for everyone; this year's campaign offers restoration, a pollinator lecture,
community science, and a self -guided tree walk in the park's system. Check it out

• Crystal Springs Tree Planting Project: In collaboration with Dirt Corps and King
Conservation District, Parks and Recreation staff developed a 2023 Urban Forestry Project

Proposal, Tukwila Equity -Focused Park Tree Planting and received $50,000 for Crystal Springs
Park from One Tree Planting. The work will start in May and run through November 2023.
The focus will be to clear and plant healthy trees and habitat through an adult job training
program.
III. Staff Updates
Public Safety
• Community Police Academy: Registration is open for the Tukwila Police Department
Community Police Academy, which starts April 18 and runs every Tuesday from 6:00 PM - 8:30
PM through June 20. Topics covered include Recruiting, Traffic, Patrol Operations, Evidence,
MCU, Court Procedures, Narcotics, Mass Violence (active shooter), Use of Force, Firearms,
VIIT, SWAT, CDU, MHP, Victim Advocate, CPT, Records, Emergency Management, and K9
demo.
• Spice Bridge Event: An officer attended a recent event at Spice Bridge to interact and
socialize with those in attendance about their culture(s) and food.
• Monthly Theft and Mall Safety Meeting: On March 23 Deputy Chief Lund attended a
monthly meeting with Westfield Southcenter and the Theft 3 and Mall Safety group.
• Casino Tour: Deputy Chief Lund and Commander Rock were invited to tour the new casino
under construction at the Ramada Hotel property at 15901 West Valley Hwy. They met the
owners and talked about their plans for community engagement.
Project Updates
• Public Works Shops Fleet & Facilities Building: Building siding scope has commenced for
replacement of damaged exterior siding, estimated completion 4-6 weeks.
• 2023 Annual Overlay Program: Estimated Completion: Fall 2023
The 2023 project will be advertised in early Spring 2023 with construction starting in the
summer. 30% Design Plans were submitted on February 17 for City comments. Final design
plans are underway, and the project is on schedule.
