HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-07-02 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor John B. Strander, at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A.G. Radford E.W. Ives, Jerry Hamilton, Wm. Aliment and Richard Bowen. The minutes of the June meeting were read, and approved as read. Current bills were examined and vouchers signed. Mr. Minkler moved that all bills approved by the Finance Committee be paid and warrants drawn for their respective amounts, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. The report of the Water department was read and placed on file. Mr. Long reported four building permits issued in June. Mr. Radford reported on City streets and Mr. Minkler on water problems. Mr. Hamilton discussed the relocation of water mains, in the path of the freeway. Mr. Aliment reported numerous fire calls for burning grass along the railroad INOWEINN right of way. Mr. Aliment moved the railroad companies be given until the 15th of i c C July to abate this nuisance of dry grass along the tracks, seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried. Mr. Walter Frey pointed out the need for more fire hydrants in some areas. Mr. Reed of Harstad Associates, presented a Plat, showing the extension of L.I.D. 2 and L.T.D. 3. Mr. Minkler moved that council accept the Plat, which had been approve by the Planning Commission, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Hamilton moved the plans be completed and the City call for bidson the furnishing and installing of water mains and sewer lines, extending LID}#2 and LID# 3, bids to be received on July 30, 1962, at 7:30 P.M., in Tukwila Council Chambers, seconded by Mr. Minkler and carried. Mr. Hamilton moved that Harstad Associates be appointed Tukwila City Engineers and that Mayor John Strander be authorized to sign a contract with same, seconded by I' Mr. Bowen and carried. Mayor Strander announced that Friday, July 6, 1962 would be Tukwila Race Tract Day at Longacres Race Tract. The council discussed with Mr. Turner of Seattle City Light, the placing of poles in Tukwila without first notifying Council of such installation. Mr. Minkler re- quested Seattle City Light to please notify The Tukwila City Council by letter before any work is started. He further stated the placing of poles above ground must be temporary, all installations which are to be permanent must be placed underground. There was some discussion regarding the relocation of roads in the Development area. Council noted that although 57th S. is an emergency road only it must be kept open. Mr. Turner requested that the portion of this road that encroached on Seattle City Light propert•. :be removed. Mr. Wing, representing Puget Western, asked for three weeks to straighten the road. Mr. Frank Todd requested a sign for So. 154th and Interurban Avenue So.. It was referred to the Street Department. Meeting recessed until Monday, July 9 at 8:00 P.M. July 2, 1962 (contt)
