The regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor,
John B. Strander at 8 :00 P.N. Councilman present were Stan Minkler, A.G. Radford,
E.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, C.T. Baker, Dwight R. Gardner and Robert B. Anderson.
First order of business was the reading of the minutes of the May 4th meeting. The
minutes were read and approved as read.
Mr. Minkler moved that all bills approved by the finance committee be allowed and
warrants drawn for their respective amounts:

The bill presented by the Petrolane Liquefied Gas co. However was held for study.
this seconded by Mr. Ives.
The public hearing in regard to the annexation has been postponed til the June 1, 1964
meeting, this at Mr. Aimes request.
The public hearing in regard to an L.I.D. for a proposed water line on North Interurban
Avenue was held at this time. As Mayor Strander is actively involved in this proposal
The president of the council, Mr. Minkler took over the proceedings in this regard. I`
Mr. Harstad of Harstad Associates presented maps and pictures of the area involved,
explaining the basic facts of the L.I.D.
Mrs Frances North representing the Codiga Estate questioned the workings of this L.I.D.
as to the cost per front foot, the size and type of line to be used and soforth.
It was brought out at this time that the property owners in this area who are now being
served by Water District 35 have already been notified that when freeway work commences
in the area the water will be shut down. Nis. Strander spoke in behalf of the water system.
Stating that the present system was very poor with no water pressure and soforth.
Mr. Banchero questioned the pressure system as he is at the end of the line, but he
was assured that it would be adequate. As there were no further questions or protest
from the audience the public hearing was declared closed.
An ordinance in this regard will be presented to council at the meeting of June 1, 1964.
this motion placed on the floor by I`r. Minkler, seconded by Mr. Anderson.
A letter was received by council from Taylor Utilities, whereby trey request that a
temporary trailer be allowed in Tukwila, so a watchman can be on hand at all times.
This trailer will be parked on the Wootan property and all necessary arrangements have
been made with Mr. Wootan. Mr. Minkler moved that this trailer be allowed, seconded by
Mr. Anderson and carried.
A letter received from the Election Board, in regard to the altering of the precincts
in Tukwila was turned over to Mr. Ives. This to be reported on at the meeting of June
1, 1964.
Mr. Anderson gave a report from King County Health Department this in regard to sub-
standard lots, due to the erosion of the river. Mr. Anderson was instructed to meet
with the property owners and report back to the Council June 1, 1964. Mr. Minkler also
suggested that Mr. Anderson should contact the Flood Control in this regard.
Mr. Zepp stated that the repair work to be done on the Foster bridge will he completed
as of June 1, 1964. The bridge repair at the Orillia bridge was started today, but
more work than was anticipated is necessary, therefore more time will be involved and
the cost will also be greater. The city crew will do the repair work. Mr. Radford moved
that council approve this additional expense and authorize Mr. Zepp to proceed at once,
seconded by Mr. Ives and. carried.
Mayor Strander presented a contract to council, this received from Puget Sound Power and
Light, this in regard to buying back all of the existing lights, then sell the City a
Service and maintenance, this would be a great improvement to the City.
The clerk was instructed to sent this contract on to the attorney for study.
It was brought to the attention of the council that the southcenter road (57th) street
was completed.
representatives of the Tukwila Chamber of Commerce were in attendance at the meeting, they
are Mr. Forsythe, Mr. Thoreson and Mr. Hoskins. Mrs Crostick presented signs o the
Council, these signs the Chamber wishes to post in the City welcoming visitors to
Tukwila, before the council can approve these signs this must he cleared with the
State Highway Department. Mr. Bowen will check into this and report at the meeting of
June 1, 1964.
Mr. Ives speaking for the license committee stated that at the present time the
license for a tip sheet service in Tukwila should be denied, as the condition of the
area what with freeway work, would only cause traffic tie -up.
Mr. Anderson speaking in regard to the Val Vue Sewer District, stated that the case
was in court at the present time., however all business activated by the thEr, acting
commissioners was legal, and our contract is valid.
Mrs. Glyden questioned the bus service in the area. Mayor Strander stated that he was
contacted and if the service is lessened action will be taken.
Mrs. Crostick commented on the ne -lect of the right of way across from the postoffice.
Mayor Strander stated that Puget Power and Seattle City Light will be notified.
Mrs Flink questioned the repair of 180th street in the vicinity of 57th Avenue.
It is understood that District 75 (water) is doing work in the area, they will
repair the road and maintain same for a period of 1 year.
Mayor Strander moved that council approve the appointment of Mr. Donald Kitting to
the Tukwila Planning Commission. Mr. Minkler moved that council approve this appointment
seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 :35
