SUBJECT: City Administrator’s Report
The City Administrator Report is meant to provide the Council, staff and community with an update
on the activities of the City and on issues that concern Tukwila. Please let me know if you have any
questions or need additional information about any of the following items.
I. Intergovernmental Update
• Sound Cities Association Mayors Meetings: Mayor Ekberg participated in Sound Cities
Association Mayors meetings on May 9 and May 16
• International Rescue Committee Luncheon: Mayor Ekberg attended a lunch hosted by the
International Rescue Committee on May 11.
• WRIA 9 Watershed Ecosystem Forum: Mayor Ekberg participated in a WRIA 9 Watershed
Ecosystem Forum on May 11.
• WCIA Board Meeting: City Administrator Cline participated in a WCIA (Washington Cities
Insurance Authority) Board meeting on May 19.
II. Community Events
• Service-Learning Days at Cottonwood Corner: Highline Public School’s Big Picture school
wrapped up their service-learning days at Cottonwood Corner for the school year. The class
has been working at the site for the past two months. The group of students learned about
local wildlife, native plants, healthy forest systems and why mulch is so important through
hands-on activities.
• Friends of the Hill Work Party: Friends of the Hill hosted their last Spring Work Party and
removed a large patch of young blackberry to prepare for the 2023 planting season.
III. Staff Updates
Public Safety
• Meeting with Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Members: On May 12, Chief Drever and
the Community Engagement Coordinator were invited to attend a meeting with Lodging
Tax Advisory Committee members who shared some of their concerns regarding crime at
their businesses. The businesses in the forum included management from the Seattle

Seawolves, Seattle Chocolate Company, Starfire, DoubleTree Suites Southcenter,
Homewood Suites, and Columbia Hospitality.
• Water Safety for Tukwila Community Center Preschoolers: In partnership with Puget
Sound Regional Fire Authority, Emergency Management taught water safety to the
preschoolers at the Tukwila Community Center Preschool. Through a grant, each child
went home with a life jacket to keep.
• Lowe’s Donation for Emergency Preparedness Kits: Lowe’s agreed to donate several
thousand dollars in specific merchandise to be used in our emergency preparedness kits
that will be distributed through the Tukwila School District to low-income and limited-
English Proficiency families. Lowe’s donation allows us to stretch grant dollars further and
provide an additional 56 kits for a total of 186 kits.
Project Updates
• PW Shops – F&F building TI Contract: Pressure washing and painting will begin on May 29,
2023 for 3-6 weeks, weather permitting.
• 2023 Annual Overlay Program: Estimated Completion: Fall 2023
The 2023 project bid opening took place on May 16, 2023. Construction is scheduled to begin
in the summer.
• 2024-2044 Comprehensive Plan: Staff working on the 2024-2044 Comprehensive Plan have
started attending community meetings and events to encourage awareness of and
participation in the update of the Comprehensive Plan. Additional information can be found

• Planning for Recreation Access Grant Award: Parks and Recreation was awarded a $197,300
State Recreation and Conservation Office “Planning for Recreation Access” grant to develop a
playbook for inclusive park design.
• Green Jobs Youth Program to Continue in Tukwila: Partner in Employment received a
$40,000 grant from Washington Department of Nature Resources and Community Forestry to
continue their Green Jobs Youth Training Program in Tukwila. The funds will pay for four
weeks of work at Tukwila Park and Crystal Springs Park.

• Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for June 28, 2023.
