HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-10-19 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor,
John B. Strander at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A.G. Radford,
E.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner, C.T. Baker and Robert B. Anderson.
First order of business was the reading of the minutes of the October 5, 1964 meet-
ing. The minutes were approved as read.
Mr. Minkler moved that council hold up the bills presented by Harstad, this as a
temporary measure, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. Mr. Minkler moved that all
other bills be approved, seconded by Mr. Radford and carried. They are as follows:

Mr. Ives stated that the co,pletion of the Sidewalk project is imperative, as
the weather is a great factor in finishing this project.
A letter, received from the City of Kent was presented to council, this in regard
to the placing of lights in the area of 180th Street. The plan would be that both
Kent and Tukwila place two lights in the area. Mr. Minkler moved that council approve
this action subject to location approval of Mr. Zepp, seconded by Mr. Radford and
carried.
Mr. Anderson speaking for the Sanitation Committee stated that a letter was received
from Mr. Bergstrom questioning the cost of a later hook up to the sewer line. Stat
ing that this will not be re- assessed. Mr. Anderson moved that council go on record
as assuring Mr. Bergstrom that this is not the policy of the council. The policy of
the council in effect is as follows:
That within the area originally assessed, the construction of sewer improvements may
subsequently, made by the property owner at his own expense, providing they meet the
standards and specifications of the Ordinances of the City of Tukwila and the laws
of the State of Washington. This action moved by Mr. Anderson seconded by Mr. Ives
and carried.
Mr. Anderson stated that for the most part all of the sewer hook ups would be available
by November 1, 1964.
Mr. Ives spoke to council regarding a proposed storm drain, in the area of 139th
56th Place South. Mr Radford stated that it would be possible to widen the street
over the pressure line.
Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 410 confirming the assessment Roll in conjunction
with L.I. D. 5 be placed on its first reading, seconded by Mr. Baker and carried.
Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 410 be placed on its second reading, seconded by
Mr. Gardner and carried. Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 410 he placed on its
third and final reading for passage, seconded by Mr. Baker and carried.
Ordinance 411 was presented to council at this time. Mr. Baker moved that Ordinance
411 pretaining to amending Ordinance 297 be placed on its first reading, seconded
by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Baker moved that Ordinance 411 be placed on its second
reading, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Baker moved that Ordinance 411 be
placed on its third and final reading for passage seconded by Mr. Gardner and carried.
Mr. Bowen discussed with council his talk with the State Hi &hway Department. 53rd Ave.
will be closed all winter. Due to the constantly changing route at the junction it
would be advisable that a light be installed.
Mr. Gardner stated that a Task Force meeting will be held Thursday October 22, 1964
this in regard to Flood Control.
Mayor Strander stated that the Valley Regional Planning Commission will meet in
council chamber Thursday evening October 22, 1964.
Mrs Flink questioned council in regard to who in Tukwila gave the State permission
to relocate water in the area of 57th 180th Mr. Gardner will check this out.
Mr. Ives will act as part of the street committee in getting the stamerks sidewalks
back in shape.
It was brought out at this time that L.I.D. 6 still carries a 6% interest rate,
wheras the other L.I.D's are 5 percent. An amendment to the ordinance in this regard
will be presented to council November 2, 1964.
