At SUMMARY Council's direction, staff pursued an open, competitive procurement process for the next contract. Recology was the highest-rated proponent and staff proceeded with contract negotiations. On September 19, 2022, Council approved to award a 10 -year contract to Recology. Since September 2022, Staff has worked with WM and Recology to ensure a smooth transition for residents and businesses. At Council's direction, staff pursued an open, competitive procurement process for the next contract. Recology was the highest-rated proponent and staff proceeded with contract negotiations. On September 19, 2022, Council approved to award a 10 -year contract to Recology. DISCUSSION: Since September 2022, Staff has worked with WM and Recology to ensure a smooth transition for residents and businesses. In July, the Public Works Department hired a Solid Waste Analyst to oversee the contract transition and administration. Staff has also worked with Recology and a consultant (Wilder Environmental Consulting) to develop a communications strategy reaching residents and businesses regarding new services, rates, and new pick-up days (if applicable). Throughout the summer, Recology will be attending several City -led events to introduce themselves to the community, answer questions, and facilitate in-person account changes. Recology will hire a new Waste Zero Specialist and an additional customer service agent to focus on Tukwila before collection services begin. Below please find a detailed timeline.
