HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-08-16 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila City council was called to order by the Mayor,
John B. Strander at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A.G. Radford,
E.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner and Robert B. Anderson.
First order of business was the reading of the minutes of the August 2, 1965
meeting, the minutes were approved as read.
Mr. Minkler moved that all the bills approved by the finance committee be allowed
with warrants drawn for their respective amounts, seconded by Mr. Radford and
carried.
Mayor Strander publically thanked Mr. Minkler for '_serving as acting Mayor in his
absense at the meeting of August 2, 1965.
Mayor Strandee commended Councilman Gardner for being named as Chairman of the
Steering Committee of the Flood Control Committee.
Bid opening in regard to proposed street work within the City of Tukwila was the
next business at hand. A bid received from Rainier Asphalt Paving for Project 3
was received for the sum of $7,481.00 Project 4 was $7,735.00
A bid received from Segale Construction was in the amount of 8,201.00 for project
3 and for project 4 $8,614.00.
These bids were turned over to the street committee for study. Mr. Minkler moved u
that the street committee be impowered to go ahead and order this work done at the
completion of this study, this subject to advisement of the attorney, seconded by
Mr. Bowen and carried.
Mr. Anderson moved that bid ads be placed in the Daily Journal of Commerce Mayer Strander
suggested that this action be takemaup with the City Attorney as to lesgality. This motion
died for lack of a second
A public nearing was held at this time in conjunction to the updating and revising
of the Tukwila Comprehensive Street Plan. Mr. Zepp spoke to council in this regard icu'l
pointing out on the map the various areas to be involved in the immediate future.
Mr. Zepp stated that this should show that it is a six year plan subject to revision
every two years. Mr. Ives moved that Ordinance 436 relating to the Street Plan
be placed on its first reading,seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried. This to be
continued at the meeting of September 7, 1965
Mayor Strander read a letter received from Harstad Associates this in regard to the
vent pipes en the LID 5 lift station, whereby the pipes are found to be on the
Mettler property rather than the Brewer property, this will be tabled until further
word is forthcoming from the contractor.
Mayor Stranded stated that the Renton Tukwila section of the Freeway will be
�mrxlm¢� open for public use on September 3, 1965 There will be special
cere:onies at 2:00 P.M. Mayor Strander urged that as many as possible be in attendance.
Mr. Gberge Freeman of All American Homes spoke to email council in behalf of his
client Mr. Arthur Hartlaub this in conjunction with the establishing a Poultry
Processing Plant within the City of Tukwila. The feasibility of such a move was
discussed at length with council, as to water and sewers in the area. Mr. Minkler
stated that an L.I.D might be the answer.
Mr. Traynor handed an article to the council this to do with Police and Fire de-
partment policy. Mr. Mettler spoke in regard to the pipes that are placed on his
property. A letter will be forth coming on this at a later date.
