HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-02-21 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor, John B. Strander at 8:00 P.M. Councimen present were Stan Minkler, A.G. Radford, E.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner, C.T. Baker and Robert B. Anderson. The first order of business was the reading of the minutes of the February 7th meeting, the minutes were approved as read. Mr. Haley of the Highline Times introduced Marsha Blue, as the new reporter for this area. Mr. Wasson and Mr. Tonsing of the Postal Department were in attendance at this meet- ing for the purpose of answering questions of the people and council in regard to home postal delivery. Mayor Strander read a letter from the Totem Girl Scout council, whereby the week of March 6 -12 will be proclamed as Girl Scout Week. MONMXXXIMUNEX Councilman Anderson presented a petition to council in regard to the proposed L.I.D. 11. Ordinance 450 relating to this L.I.P. was p resented to council Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 450 be placed on its first reading, seconded by Mr. Minkler and carried. Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 450 be placed on its second reading seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 450 be placed on its third and final reading for adoption, seconded by Mr. Baker and carried. Mr. Gardner spoke in regard to the Green River Flood Control. Mr. Minkler read a letter from the Planning Commission whereby the request for re- zone recieved from Mr. Hawley was denied by the Planning Commission. Mr. Minkler stated that there will be 5 petitions for rezone on the agenda of the Planning Commission for March 17th In regard to Mr. Hawley request for rezone Attornt:y Hodge states that this must come to a Public Hearing by Council. This public Hearing will be set for March 7th. Mr. Mettler questioned council in regard to the 10 foot easement that was granted in regard to the Storm Drainage project. At this time Mayor Strander turned the meeting over to L.D. Wasson and A.J. Tonsing representing the Postal Department. Mayor Strander stated that Tukwila wants efficient mail service for all and that the identity of Tukwila not be destroyed. Mr. Tonsing stated that we could become a branch office of Seattle, but that it was not feasible for the City of Tukwila to have a new post office. That the post mark on mail would remain Tukwila,Washington Mr. Wasson stated that mounted service for Tukwila would come from the Riverton Heights Branch and that a grouping of boxes on streets would be preferred Mayor Strander stated that many of the business' in the Andover Industrial area would prefer to have their mail addressed Tukwila linaKkaatIMICaNt but the facilities would have to be updated, therefore Mayor Strander stressed the need for our own post office. It was brought out at this time that if the city did have postal delivery it would take a sudy and survey before this could be brought about.
