HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-05-16 Regular MinutesMay 16, 1966 The regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor, John B. Strander at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present were Ctan Minkler, A.G. Radford, E.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner and Robert B. Anderson First order of business was the opening of bids for a new Police Car. Two bids were received, one from Bill Hazelett Cheverolet of Kent and one from Williams and Swanson of Renton. No. 1 bid was for the amount of $1,849.32 and No. 2 bid was for the amount of $1,691.08. These bids were turned over to the Police Committee. NIr. Ives moved that the police committee have the authority to award the bid after study, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. The City Clerk read the minutes of the May 2nd meeting at this time, the minutes were approved as read, showing an addition, the addition being that it was discussed as to the number of councilmen allowed on thePlanning Commission, Mr. Radford Stated that either he or Mr. Minkler would resign their position. Mr. Anderson, Sewer Chairman, presented the facts and figures on the proposed LID 12. Mr. William Hopper questioned council as to why he was included in the LID on which Mr. Fujiki showed him the map and the workings of the LID. Mr. Paul Fiorito stated that a2though he was not against the LID he would like to have a few questions answered, in regard to the scope of the LID the future use, and the charge to people joining later.The question was also raised about the servicing the property on the other side of the street. Mr. Segale stated that because of the steep terrian of his property he felt that some adjustments should be made. Mr. Sanford stated that he his getting assessed for over a third of the total assessment, nonetheless sewers are needed in the area. After much discussion by council Mr. Anderson moved that an ordinance be drafted setting up LID 12 seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. Mr. Minkler discussed with the engineers the possibility of getting all adjustments made before we proceed, Mr. Hill stated that all adjustments will be made before the final LID. notices are sent out. Ordinance #455 was presented to council at this time, this in regard to the Puget Sound Power and Light Franchise. The first reading on this was held May 2, 1966. Mr. Bowen moved that Ordinance 455 be placed on its second reading, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Anderson moved that Ordinance 455 be placed on its third and final reading for passage, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Radford noted that bids opened on May the 12 for the Street LID 11 had been i gone over with the engineers. M.A. Segale, Inc. was awarded the bid in the amount of $122,687.22. A request for a street vacation was presented to council, this request coming from Mr. F.E. Hammons, Thomas Wimmer and C.T. Baker, the street involved is 62nd Avenue South. Mr. Bowen moved that a Public Hearing be set for this street vacation, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried. The public hearing date being June 6, 1966 at 8 :00 P.M. notices to be posted in the area. Mr. Gerald R. Schaltter and Mr Alien Yates agents for -the Green River Valley Study spoke to council in regard to the proposed changes and plans Tukwila has for the development of the area. It was determined that the arterial streets, 57th Avenue; 180th South and 144th S. were up the most important at the present time. Mr. Schaltter stated that they will be available to help with any problems if the need arises. Mr. Radford speaking for the Street Committee stated that he had received a letter from Mr. Marvin Boys, wherein Mr. Boys would like to have 57th Avenue renamed to SouthCenter Parkway, this from the S line bridge to the south city limits. Mr. Zepp was instructed to contact all property owners in the area to inform them of this intention, a meeting will be held to discuss this with all interested persons. Mr. Hodge stated that the Val Vue Sewer District is most eager to talk with the City of Tukwila in regard to the swwage disposal problem. There being no further business for discussion the meeting was adjourned.
