AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES TO BE
VOTED UPON AT ANY GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE TOWN OF TUKWILA
FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING ANY OF THE ELECTIVE MUNICIPAL OFFICERS
OF SAID TOWN; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 86.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOliN COUNCIL OF TH_ ::J TOWN OF TUKti ILA, STATE OF
WASHINGTON;
SECTION 1. Whenever there is to be a general election held in
the Town of Tukwila for the purpose of electing any of the elective
officers of said Town, any political party or other group or,groups
of electors residing within the corporate limits of said Town may
hold a public caucus for the purpose of nominating candidates to be
voted upon at said general election, which said caucus shall be held
in the Town Hall on the first Monday in January between 7 :30 and 8
P.M. Public notice of said meeting must be made at least ten (10)
days prior to the time of holding same, which, said notice shall be
posted in at least three(3) public places in said Town, one of which
notices shall be posted at the front of the building where said caucus
is to be held, which notice shall give the time, place and purpose of
said caucus.
SECTION 2. Said caucus shall be open to the public and all quali-
fied electors of said Town shall be permitted to participate therein.
The Mayor of the Town of Tukwila shall act as presiding officer for
the purpose of calling the meeting to order and permitting said caucus
to name its permanent officers. When the candidated are properly nomi-
nated for each office the voting shall be by ballot and the candidates
receiving the highest number of votes shall be declared nominated for
the office voted upon, and the names of the candidates so nominated
shall be certified by the chairman and secretary, and such certificate
of nomination of each candidate shall be delivered to the Town Clerk
within twenty- four(24) hours after the nominations are made.
That after the chairman and secretary of said meeting have been
elected and either prior to the nominations of candidates or after
the nomination of the candidates as those present at the meeting may
determine, the caucus shall give the ticket a name, such as "Citizen's
Ticket "Taxpayerfs Ticket or such other naive as may be determined
by a majority vote of those present.
SECTION 3. That more than one(1) caucus ray be held in said Town,
but if more than one(1), then each caucus shall use a different name
from any name adopted by anI previous caucus, but no person partici-
pating in one caucus shall be permitted to,participate in any other
caucus held for the nomination of the same office to be voted on at
the same election.
SECTION 4, That when said certificates of nomination have been
filed with the Town Clerk he shall arrange to have the names of the
different candidates placed upon the ballots to be used in said
election under the name or designaticn adopted by the caucus nomi-
nating each said candidate.
SECTION 5. That no name shall be placed upon the ballots to be
voted on at such election unless the names of such candidates have
been nominated under the provisions of this ordinance or under any
provisions of the laws of the State of Washington.
SECTION 6. Ordinance No. 86, which is in conflict with this
ordinance is hereby repealed.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and posting as provided by law.
Passed the Town Council and approved by the Mayor this"jA,day of
