August 8, 2023 6:00pm Location: Hybrid Tukwila community Center AND Via Microsoft Teams
1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:01pm
2. Roll Call
a. Board Members: Cynthia Chesak, Verna Seal, Gerie Ventura, Marie Parrish, Cassandra Galante,
Angie Gonzalez
i. Virtual: Robin Boland
ii. Absent: Steve Miller
b. Staff: KCLS Staff: Mary Sue Howser; City of Tukwila Staff: John Dunn
c. Guest Speaker: Nancy Eklund, Long range Planning Manager, City of Tukwila
3. Approval of Agenda and Minutes —June 6, 2023
a. Agenda: Marie Parrish motioned to approve the agenda. Cassandra Galante second the motion,
all were in favor.
b. Minutes: Marie Parrish motioned to approve the minutes with a correction. Verna Seal second
the motion, all were in favor.
4. Public Comment: No public comments
5. Unfinished Business
a. 2023 Student Rep open seat status update — John Dunn announced Angie Gonzalez was officially
appointed by the Mayor and Council for the Student Rep position on the board. The Board
congratulated Angie.
b. Outreach strategy development discussion — Cassie Galante reported SHAG requested to table
until they hire a new person in late August or Early September.
c. Joint event with Friends of Tukwila Library — Gerie Ventura reported Friends of Tukwila have not
met and this item is tabled until further notice.
6. New Business
a. Tukwila Comprehensive Plan update — Nancy Eklund, Long Range Planning Manager presented
the information on the current work with the City Comprehensive Plan. Board members asked
follow up questions.
7. Reports
a. KCLS: Mary Sue Howser provided an update of programs and information for the board.

programs and other information.

a. Verna Seal announced that she has been appointed to the King County Library System Board of
Trustees.
