HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-10-16 Regular MinutesOctober 16, 1967 The regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by the Mayor, John B. Strander at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan D. Minkler, A.G. Radford, F.W. Ives, Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner and Miss Helen B. Nelsen. The first order of business was the reading of the minutes of the October 2nd meeting, the minutes were approved as read. Miss i\ielsen, home from an extended world tour, was welcomed back to the council table by Mayor Strander. Mr. Minkler moved that all the bills approved by the finance committee be allowed, with warrants drawn for their respective amounts, seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried. Mayor Strander stated that a recent request of the City, for a new bridge and improvement to South Center Parkway and 180th street South has been approved by the Urban Arterial Board of the Washington State Highway Department. Mr. Hill spoke to council in this regard, as to how we should proceed, pointing out the area involved on the map. Mr. Hill was instructed by council to draft a letter to the City of Renton, specifying the amount (dollarwise) that the City of Renton should pay on the new bridge, as about 1/4 of the above mentioned bridge is in the City of Renton. A resolution of intent will have to be passed in regard to an L.I.D. for this project, therefore Mr. Bowen moved that council meet on Monday October 23, 1967 for this express purpose, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Radford moved that Mr. Hill be authorized to prepare the final design for the assessment roll, seconded by r`r. Gardner and carried. It was pointed out at this time, that all the property owners will participate in the street L.I.D. but only a portion, in the drainage program. A public hearing scheduled for this evening, in regard to the Comprehensive Street Program was continued til the next meeting of council, this motion moved by Mr. Minkler and seconded by Mr. Radford. Motion carried. Mr. Bowen, speaking for the Fire Department, stated that the recent bids received for a fire truck have been thrown out. MR Langer stated that fire permits will be required on a 12 month basis now, this in an effort to curb air pollution. Mr. Ives speaking for the license committee stated that he has received an answer from the State in regard to refuse collecting systems. This to be reported on at a later date, after study. Mr. Andrews spoke to council in regard to a recent request for street vacation, this in connection with a requested zoning change. Mr. Minkler moved that council set the date of public hearing in this regard for November 20, 1967, the changing of zoning and street vacation. The clerk will get the details from the planning commission and plam the notice of Public Hearings in the local paper, seconded by Mr.Bowen and carried. Mrs Schoenbackler questioned council in regard to the state requirying them to mote a fence, as the state says that it is a Tukwila Right -of Way. Mr. Zepp stated that the City of Tukwila has a 60 foot right of way on South 180th for a drainage line, so if they move their fence back now, when the time comes for the drainage line installation the fence will have to be moved again, but at no cost to the property owner. Mr. Zepp also stated that new street signs for the area are on order and will be installed as soon as possible.
