Members of Tukwila City Council Washington State Highway Department The meeting was held in the Tukwila City Hall at 2:00 p.m. today for the purpose of allowing the State Highway Department to present to the Tukwila City Council and affected property owners proposed plans for the improvement of Interurban Avenue South within the Tukwila City Limits. The meeting was attended by Council members, Tom Forsythe, Dwight Gardner, Helen Nelsen and Larry Popejoy. Also present were State Representative Avery Garrett and Mr. John Richardson of the Joint Legislative Committee for Highways, Mr. W. E. Foster and five members of his staff presented the following plans: 1. Interurban Avenue will be constructed with four traffic lanes with a fifth lane to be utilized for channelization of left turns and strategically located U -Turn facilities from the North border of the City extending South to the Highway 405 Interchange, A formal proposal, complete with design maps will be forwarded to the City Council prior to the next meeting scheduled for December 18, 1967. There were no negative comments from affected property owners concerning the North portion of the proposal. It is apparent that the South portion is unacceptable to the affected property owners. It is estimated that the U- Turn at South 143rd Street will be re- located one block South to South 1l3rd Place to facilitate industrial development in the area. The Street Committee will review the Highway Department proposal and present it to the Council as a whole for council action in the near future,
