A special meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order at
8 :00 P. M. by Mayor Stan D. Minkler. Council members present were:
Richard A. Bowen, Dwight R. Gardner, Larry D. Popejoy, Helen B. Nelsen,
L. E. Crostick and Thomas M. Forsythe.
Also in attendance were Planning Commission members Alvin B. Harrison,
Joseph Johanson, Ronald Mettler and Dwayne Traynor and Park Board
members E. W. Ives, Jon Sterling, Katherine Harris and Eugene Elfstrom.
The purpose of the special meeting was to hold. a Public Hearing on
the Comprehensive Park Plan which was prepared for the City of Tukwila
by the firm of Olson, Richert and Bignold. Mr. Bignold explained
the Comprehensive Plan in detail.
At the conclusion of Mr. Bignold's report, Mr. Crostick thanked the
members of the Park Board for their diligent efforts in working with
the consulting firm.
Mr. Minkler announced Puget Western was donating strips of land along
the river bank north of 180th to the City of Tukwila as a part of
the plan to acquire land along the river bank for public use. The
Department of Game is also interested in working with the city to
accomplish this goal.
Mayor Minkler explained that if the Council adopts the Comprehensive
Park Plan, the city would proceed with plans to apply for state and
federal funds to match the monies now available. There would be no
imediate burden on the tax payer unless citizens indicate a desire
to vote a bond issue in order to move faster to accomplish the long
range plan. Mr. Ives added the implementation of the plan will
advance at the rate the citizens choose.
There being no questions raised, Mr. Popejoy moved the Public Hearing
be closed. Motion seconded by Mr. Bowen and carried.
Mr. Crostick made a motion the Clerk prepare an ordinance adopting
the Comprehensive Park Plan for presentation at the regular council
meeting of March 17th.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:25 P. M.
