Newton BUREAU OF GOVERNMENTAL RESEARCH AND SERVICES UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON 266 J. Alien Smith Hall Seattle 5, Washington Mrs. Lois T. Newton City Clerk Tukwila, Washington Dear Mrs. Newton: DS: jm Sincerely, March 10, 1948 We have contacted the State Health Department regarding your oroblem of deterioration in your water pipes°:nd Mr. Stockman will get in touch with you shortly. As you probably know, the State Health Depart- ment has to approve construction work on your water system anyway. Seattle has had the same problem and due to the acid content of the water which is the same as yours, steel pipe is unsatisfactory and only cast iron or transite type will stand up. In our conversation I neglected to mention that State Develop qent Funds are not supposed to be used in self liquidation projects which your water system would be. However, there is still a chance of approval of such use if the State Finance Committee is convinced of the necessity of such fund diversion. I hope to send you some sample telephone franchise ordinances with- in a day or two. CNQe5 DONALD C. SAMSON Municipal Research Consultant
