CALL TOORDER /PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Mayor McLeod called the Special Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, ROLL CALL Laurel Humphrey, Legislative Analyst, called the roll ofthe Council. MOVED BY ABD|,SECONDED BY MARUNEZ TO EXCUSE THE ABSENCE OFCOUNC|LAABMBER SHARP UNTIL HIS ARRIVAL. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. CITY OFFICIALS Thomas McLeod, Mayor; David Cline, City Administrator; Nora Gierloff, Community Development Director; Eric Drever, Police Chief; Joel Bush, Chief Technology Officer; Laurel Humphrey, Legislative Analyst. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Counoi|nnember McConnell stated "The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects totheir elders past, present and emerging." NEW BUSINESS Council candidate interviews for Position #3. Laurel Humphrey, Legislative Analyst, offered a reminder regarding the process for candidate interviews as follows: Tukwila City Council Position No. 3 became vacant on January 1, 2024. The City Council accepted applications through December 22, 2023 at 5:00 p.m., and 12 were received, with 10 advancing to the interview stage. The applicants were escorted into the Council Chamber and interviewed in the following order. o. JmhnPolston b. DonTonlaao c. Gabrie|a Quintana d. Hannah Hedrick e. Jane Ho 8:40p.m. Coumci|rnemberSharp entered the Council Chamber. Each applicant was asked the following questions: 1. Introduce yourself, including your interest inbeing oCounoi|memberand anoverview ofyour qua|ificaUons, including any previous community service orinvolvement. Explain your understanding of the role of a City Councilmember, and briefly explain why you did not run for office during the election cycle. 3. What doyou believe are the greatest strengths ofthe City ofTukwila? 4. Describe your experience working with different stakeholders, such as businesses, community organizations and residents. 5. A Councilmember must make decisions in the best interest in the community and is faced with difficult decisions where some people may benefit and others may not, Describe your thought process for determining what is in the City's best interest and how you can make an equitable decision. G. What do you think are the most important qualities of an effective leader, and how do you envision the legacy you would like toestablish during your term ifappointed? 7. A Councilmember is part of a group that must work as a team. Provide examples of when you've collaborated with oteam orhave worked toreach consensus within oteam.
