IV Approval of Minutes, December 7, 2023 (2 minutes) V Business Items • Get to know your fellow Commissioners. Commissioners shared something about themselves. • Introduction to Marty Wine, Deputy City Administrator Marty shared her interest in working for the City of Tukwila, past work experience, and answered Commissioner questions. • Commission Membership Commissioners confirmed vacancies, including who was seeking reappointment or leaving. Further discussion included upcoming recruitment efforts. COMMISSION ACTION ITEM: Prioritize goals at the next meeting VI Miscellaneous • VII Adjournment 1. To promote understanding that accepts, celebrates, and appreciates diversity within the community. Juneteenth Planning 2. To serve as a resource for the community by providing information and educational forums that will facilitate a better understanding and awareness of social justice and human rights. Building and deepening relationship to EPIC and drill into the equity tool kit. Amp community presence. Forums, trainings e.g. Trades and youth - bring it back to the city. Use old buildings for skills training purposes. TCC isa great space, but not accessible. 3. To provide recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding opportunities to increase equity and social justice awareness and promote social justice programs. Racial Restrictive Covenants. Solve an unspoken assumption that Just because the language is not enforceable, that it still exists. City take a position/check with attorney Infrastructure/services - housing. transportation, green spaces. Continue oversight of Comp Plan - equitable policy development. Bring city planning in alignment with EP. Work with EPIC, make recommendations to Council Hold the City accountable for assessing a baseline, developing an implementation plan, and reporting measurable progress in meeting each of the six -goals listed in the Equity Policy. Create opportunities for connections Enforcing equity policies. Required training for BBCs, employees in every department. Continuation - prioritize hires locally/Tukwila residents, EP 1 city workforce reflects the community's diversity. Representation matters. More power to enforce policy. Doesn't feel like we have decision making power. Lean Into advisory role and build relationships. Required to get Input from ESJC.
