• Get to know your fellow Commissioners, including new Councilmember Jovita
McConnell.
Commissioners shared something about themselves.
• Still Waters report regarding use of 2023 funds and impact.

• Commission Membership Recruitment
Commissioners discussed potential recruits and brainstormed strategies for
recruitment, including promoting through Tukwila blogs, social media, new staff
orientation, reaching out to our networks, and requesting that the Equity Policy
Implementation Committee (EPIC) to do the same. Brochures were distributed.

• 2024 ESJC Goal setting and Budget planning
Commissioners continued the process by prioritizing stated goals. Top priorities include
deepening ESJC's relationship to EPIC; relationship -building in the community by
amplifying ESJC's community presence; develop educational opportunities regarding
racial restrictive covenants; involvement in comprehensive plan; enforcing equity policy
related to policy development, city planning, and workforce diversity; and addressing
equity across boards and commissions, including recruitment practices, training and
education, and other practices.

volunteers who serve on our Boards
and Commissions. Volunteers serve an
important function by offering their
time and expertise as members.
Anyone interested in serving on a
Board or Commission should
complete an application and submit it
to the Mayor's Office at City Hall.
Applications are reviewed and
appointments are made by the Mayor
and confirmed by the City Council.

Community Oriented Policing Citizen's
Advisory Board
The Community Oriented Policing Citizen's
Advisory Board (COPCAB) consists of eight
members and a student representative that
work with the Chief of Police to promote
public safety and community policing.
Hybrid Meetings the 2nd Thursday each
month at 6:30 PM online or at the Tukwila
Justice Center located at 15005 Tukwila
International Blvd.
Term of Service: 4 Years
Human Services Advisory Board
The Human Services Advisory Board has
seven members and advises the Mayor and
City Council on assessing human services
needs in Tukwila, provides
recommendations for prioritizing human
service needs and recommends policies
and programs for funding.
Hybrid Meetings the 3rd Thursday every
other month at 10 AM online or in the
Human Services Office.
Term of Service: 3 Years
Library Advisory Board
The Library Advisory Board has seven
members and a student representative that
serve under the direction of the Parks and
Recreation Manager advising City officials
on library services in the City and
promoting library services and activities.
Hybrid Meetings the 1st Tuesday each
month at 6:00 PM online at the Tukwila
Community Center.
Term of Service: 2 Years
Arts Commission
The Tukwila Arts Commission has up to
seven members and a student representative
that serve under the direction of the Parks
and Recreation Manager. The Arts
Commission is actively involved in providing
public art, as well as a variety of cultural
experiences and performances for Tukwila
residents throughout the year.
Hybrid Meetings the 4th Wednesday each
month at 6:00 PM online or at the Tukwila
Community Center.
Term of Service: 4 Years
Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission consists of
three members appointed by the Mayor to
exercise the powers and perform the duties
established by state law and the Tukwila
Municipal Code 2.42.030 in connection with
the selection, appointment, promotion,
demotion and employment of commissioned
police officers and non-commissioned police
personnel.

month at 5:00 PM online or in the Duwamish
Conference Room at 6300 Southcenter Blvd.
Term of Service: 6 Years
Equity and Social Justice Commission
The Equity and Social Justice Commission
has nine members and a student
representative that advise the city of
opportunities to promote understanding of
diversity within the community, serves as a
resource regarding social justice and human
rights information and education, and
provides recommendations to the Mayor
and City Council to increase equity and social
justice.

month at 5:30 PM online or at the Tukwila
Justice Center located at 15005 Tukwila
International Blvd.
Park Commission
The Tukwila Park Commission consists of
seven members and a student
representative that serve under the
direction of the Parks and Recreation
Manager in an advisory capacity
concerning all recreation and golf services
and parks development and policies.

month at 5:30 PM online or at the Tukwila
Community Center.
Term of Service: 3 Years
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is comprised of
seven members and acts as the land use
advisory body for the City Council,
reviews and makes recommendations on
the City's Comprehensive Plan, Shoreline
Plan, Subdivision, Zoning and Sign Codes
and acts as the City's Board of
Architectural Review.

Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is
comprised of seven members and
provides recommendations to the Mayor
and Council regarding the levying and
application of Hotel/Motel tax collections.
