HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-02-01 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila City Council was called to order by Mayor Stan D. Minkler at 8:00 p.m. with the following Council members present. R. A. Bowen, D. R. Gardner, J. R. Johanson, G. D. Hill, P. F. Dunning, A. G. Radford and J. D. Sterling. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. February 1, 1971 APPROVAL OF CLAIMS Mr. Bowen made a motion claims approved by the Finance Committee be paid with warrants drawn in their respective amounts. Motion seconded by Mr. Gardner and carried. Following the claims: Claims Fund Warrants No. 1451 thru 1454 and No. 101 thru 184 and Urban Arterial Fund Warrants No. 196 thru 201. PERMANENT APPOINTMENT OF PATROLMAN JOHNSTON. Mayor Minkler announced Probationary Patrolman Ronald G. Johnston had completed his probationary period and was now eligible for permanent Civil Service appointment and advancement to Patrolman III. Mayor Minkler administered the oath of office to Patrol— man III, Ronald G. Johnston. POLICE CARS Mr. Dunning reported the County has received a low bid of 3363.78 on Dodge Polaras cars. Mr. Dunning will proceed with purchase as soon as the County accepts the bid. PURCHASE OF CIVIC CENTER SITE Mr. Bowen reported the City has been offered a 108,000 square feet site on Southcenter Boulevard at 62nd Avenue for the sum of $160,000.00. The property has been appraised at $162,000.00. He further reported the property has good access with a left turn lane west bound on 154th, the utilities are in and the site would require no fill. The Comprehensive Park Plan indicates two acres would be necessary for a City Hall site. Mayor Minkler explained the property would be monies. Mr. Gardner made a motion the City purchase the 62nd Avenue South, that the Mayor be authorized and that the City proceed with condemanation if Johanson and carried. .purchased with unbudgeted sales tax property on Southcenter Boulevard at to negotiate the terms of a contract necessary. Motion seconded by Mr. ANNEXATION PETITION Mr. Bowen read a letter from Site Selectors requesting permission to submit a petition c for annexation of a small parcel of property adjacent to the property preQ'iously annexed by the Peoples Bark on Interurban Avenue South. The petition for annexation was also presented. Mr. Bowen made a motion the Council accept the intent of the petition and set a Public Hearing for March 1st at 8:00 p.m. Motion seconded by Mr. Gardner and carried. TOUR OF GREEN RIVER VAT,TFY Members of the Council reported on the recent tour of the Green River Valley with the Army Corps of Engineers. Discussion was held as to the various means of flood control in the valley and incorporation of the green belt park strip plan with the flood control plans. Mr. Gardner and his committee were instructed to draft a letter setting forth the City of Tukwila's position on this matter. SEWER CONNECTION CHARGES Mr. Hodge reported he has presented his recomendations on the proposed Sewer Connection Charges to Mayor Minkler for further review with Mr. Stack. SOUTH 144TH et al. Mr. Hawkins reported right of way acquisition was progressing on South 144th. Hope for call for bids on construction late in April. He further reported a meeting with property owners along 65th Avenue South would soon be held. STREET MAINTENANCE PROGRAM Mayor Minkler requested Mr. Hill, Chairman of the Street Committee and Mr. Long, Field Superintendant prepare a program for overlays on as many streets as possible. ATTEST: City Clerk February 1, 1971 Page 2 Mr. Hill reported the priorities had been outlined and now it is just a matter of determining dates. CHANGE OF MEETING DATE Mayor Minkler announced the next regular meeting would be held Tuesday, February 16th due to Monday, February 15th being a holiday. FIRE HAIL Mr. Johanson reported preliminary plans for the new fire station would be completed by the next meeting. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m. Mayor
