Per the City of Tukwila Minimum Wage & Fair Access to Additional Hours of Work Law, the minimum wage rate for employees working for large employers will increase to $21.10 per hour. Per Tukwila Municipal Code (TMC) 5.63, mid -size employers must pay their employees $1 less than the larger employer rate, effective January 1, 2025, at $20.10 per hour. The Law includes a scheduled rise of minimum wage rates for mid -size employers until equal to large employer rates. Mid -size employers should calendar a second minimum wage rate change that goes into effect on July 1, 2025. The large employer minimum wage rate will remain at $21.10, however, mid -size employers will be required to increase the minimum wage paid to their employees up by $1 to equal this large employer hourly rate. Here after the minimum wage rates for mid -size and large employers will be the same amount. The definition of mid -size employer vs. large employer are clarified on our webpage and in the FAQs document Tukwila Labor Standards, also on the site. Mohamed Abdi (Council President) De'Sean Quinn Tosh Sharp Armen Papyan Jovita McConnell Dennis Martinez Hannah Hedrick To confirm the size of an employer as mid -size or large per Tukwila Labor Standards, visit our webpage: TukwilaWa.gov/MinimumWage. It's important to note that there is no business type or tipped employee exception under the Minimum Wage and Fair Access to Additional Hours of Work Law. Franchisees are usually considered as large employers because they share the benefits of a network of products, advertising, and branding of a large employer. Employees are encouraged to check our website for the current 2024 rates, determine their employer's size per Tukwila law, calendar when rates go up, and understand that there is a formal complaint process if you believe your employer is not following the Tukwila Labor Standards Law. The City of Tukwila meets the definition of a mid -size employer. For more information or questions, email MinimimWage@TukwilaWa.gov. Upcoming events with the Green Tukwila Partnership!
