HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-09-16 Regular MinutesTukwila City Council Hybrid Meeting (On -site and Virtual) MINUTES REGULAR MEETING CALL 10 ORDER/ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Regular Meeting September 16, 2024 — 7:00 pirru Mayor McLeod called the Regular Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order at, 7.00 p.m and led audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, ROLL CALL Melissa McCormick, Deputy City Clerk, called the roll of the Council„ Present at the meeting were Councilmembers De"Scan Quinn, Mohamed Abdi, Tosh Sharp Armen Papyan, Jovita McConnell, Dennis Martinez, Hannah Hedrick LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Councilmember Quinn stated "The City cf Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Sallish people, We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters and culture We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging," CITY OFFICIALS Thomas McLeod, Mayor, Many Wine, City Administrator; Pete Mayer, Deputy City ,AdministratoriActing Public Works Director; Derek Speck, Economic Development Administrator, Tony Cullerton, Interim Finance Director; Eric Dreyer, Police Chief; Eric Lund, Deputy Police Chief; TO Croone, Chief People Officer; Joel Bush, Chief Technology Officer; Laurel Humphrey, Legislative Analyst Andy Youn, City Clerk; Melissa McCormick, Deputy City Clerk. PUBLIC COMMENTS 1. Greg Sherlock expressed concern regarding crimes at, and associated with, marijuana retail, 2. Joe Duffle commented on the budget and spoke against marijuana retail in Tukwila, 3 Desiree Kalalau spoke on safety concerns and possible resolutions regarding ongoing speeding issues on 44th Place South. 4 Katrina Dohn shared kudos for the Parks & Recreation department. 5, Tom Rogers, Vice Presidentof US .Security with Unibail-Rodamcp-Westfield, requested additional officers at Southcenter Mall to address ongoing public safety concerns He advised that the mall is willing to pay for one officer, APPOINTMENT Confirm the appoin 1, 2024. Staff Marty 'Wine, City Administrator, referenced the CA (City Administrator) Report, calling attention to the reversal of the Schneider homes rezone„ MISCELLANEOUS Counciimember Papyan indicated he would like the Legislative Analyst to assist Cound in writing a letter of support to Sound Transit regarding building a station in Tukwila„ Consensus existed to proceed with a letter of support to Sound Transit. ICouncilmember Martinez shared that Southcenter Mali will be hosting a Hispanic Heritage event on Friday September 20, 2024 from 3 30-5 00 pm. EXECUTIVE SESSIONI — Potentiai Litigation: Pursuant to RCW 42.30.110 (1)(i) Mayor McLeod announced the Council will now go into an Executive Session until 9 35 pm. (for 30 minutes) to discuss' Potential Litigation — Pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(i). The total amount of time will be no more than 30 minutes, and no decisions will be rnacle during the, Executive. Session„ No action will be required in the Open Meeting after the Executive Session has, concluded.
