We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging," PUBLIC COMMENTS Dennis Robertson spoke in support of public safety as a budget priority and rnturrnirng the taxpayers due to the savings related to the firer district changes, x alpac'ity to Katrina Dohn shared her Ipositive experience u~sing See Click Fix and cfo rn°pliimented the precept response and friendly staff, David Kaplan, Lot, Government Relations Manager for the Port of Seattle, noted the National Environmental' Policy Act (NEPA) draft environmental review for the Sustainable Airport Master Plan is anticipated to be released on October 21 There will be a 45•day comment period once released, PUBLIC HEARING 2024 -- 2044 Tukwila Comprehensive Plan Periodic Update 7i 12 p.m. Council President Abdi opened the public hearing and called for a staff report.. Nancy Eklund, L..ong Lange Planning Supervisor, explained the Growth Management Act (GM.) recquires the City to conduct a periodic review of the Comprehensive Plan and associated development regulations. She highlighted staff outreach at over seventy public events and ongoing agency reviews by King County, VVashington State I©epartrnent of Commerce, and the Puget Sound Regional Council. The Councilmembers questioned if the proposed Sound Transit Station was considered when developing this iteration of the comprehensive plan, 7 34 p m Council President Abdi close the public hearing SPECIAL ISSUES a. 2024 — 2044 Tukwila Comprehensive Plan Periodic Update The Councilmembers noted their appreciation for the process to date which has kept them apprised of changes and emphasized their desire for the proposed Sound Transit Light Rail station to be the impetus for redevelopment and transiboriented development (TOD)„ Staff noted the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan is cureritly scheduled to be presented at the October 21st Work Session b. 2025 — 2026 Biennial Budget: Community Outreach and Presentation of Other Funds Jo Anderson, Inclusion and Engagement Manager, reviewed outreach efforts to date including working with community liaisons who assisted; in gathering input from Tukwiladiverse population, Efforts returned three main findings: the need for quality low-income housing or rentals., to address basic. needs and safety, and build trust with Inewcomers and eirmited-English speakers. The Councilmembers asked clarifying questionsregarding community liaisons and feedback from the community, the intent and utilization of certain funds, and metrics measuring success. He also attended the Police Officer Recognition, c. Staff There was no report MISCELLANEOUS Mayor McLeod asked if the Council 'would consider a contract to provide financial assistance for Edon() Lodge, which is currentlyhousing asylum -sleeking individuals from the '$.4 million grant to be provided from the State and King County allocated for this type of service, CONSENSUS EXISTED TO EXTEND 'THE MEETING PAST 10:00 P.M. Councilmembers asked clarifying questions regarding Riverton Park United Methodist Church„ MAJORITY CONSENSUS EXISTED FOR THIS ITEM TO RETURN TO COUNCIL FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION.
