I am recommending the following appointments as outlined below. Applications are attached for your review. Arts Commission Position 6: This position is currently vacant. I am recommending the appointment of Kamla Kakaria to this position. The term for this position expires March 31, 2026. Student Representative: This position is currently vacant. I am recommending the appointment of Angeline Peralta. Angeline is a junior at Foster High School. The term for this appointment will expire on June 30, 2026, upon her graduation from high school. Human Services Advisory Board Position 4: This resident position is currently vacant. I am recommending the appointment of Marilyn Westman to this position. The term for this position will expire March 31, 2026. Library Advisory Board Position 5: This position is currently vacant. I am recommending the appointment of Crystal Lyons to this position. (Please limit your response to 500 words or less.) This statement includes my answers to all three the questions below: I have an MFA in Visual Arts from the University of WA in 2000. I have worked in a number of arts organizations since then including: Seattle Art Museum and the Henry Art Gallery. I have taught art classes at University of Washington, North Seattle College, Kirkland Art Center and Pratt Fine Arts Center. I was part of Shift Gallery and Columbia City Gallery. I have been the 2D Studio Manager at Pratt Fine Arts Center for the last 20 years. I am also a Board member of SGCI (Southern Graphics Council International) the largest printmaking organization in the country organizing conferences throughout the US once a year. In my current job as Pratt's 2D Studio Manager I am responsible in creating and implementing a budget for my department of $300,000 . I moved in with my partner ten years ago who has lived in Allentown, Tukwila since 2004. Our neighborhood is very diverse and wonderful. Tukwila is home to people from all over the world with Foster High School having the most languages spoken in the US. I am very interested in supporting all arts in Tukwila. Drawing on the diverse cultures as well as the Duwamish culture and history naturally lends to many projects. I mainly focused on theatre in the last 2 years so that's what made me want to serve on the board. I like to think I'm qualified because I'm a great listener and good at writing down what I hear. I am a resident of Tukwila for over 25 years now and am familiar with the work of the HSAB through conversations with my spouse, Terra Straight, who has served on the board for many terms. For the last 3 funding cycles, I have been Terra's reader of the applications as her vision has deteriorated, During the most recent cycle this summer, I attended the meetings online with her. I say all of this because I know, firsthand, the committment and scheduling needed to read, score and discuss the applications and be available to meet with the agencies. I think that the overall health of a community is reflected in the policies, resources and actions taken to meet the needs of it's more vulnerable, displaced and marginalized members. Not easy to provide services to those needing it the most while paying attention to the whole community. That balancing act seems to be a large challenge at a time when money is needed for so many programs and services. My background includes a BA in Business Administration and a MA in Psychology. I worked 20+ years in community mental health including years at Highline Community Mental Health and King County Mental Health Services. I switched from mental health to construction administration for 10 years at Port of Seattle and retired from Seattle Housing Authority, after 15 years, where I administered housing construction and services contracts for rebuilding High Point and Yesler Terrace. Both my paid work and my volunteer work has allowed me to contribute to my communities. With my retirement, I am looking forward to serving on the HSAB.
