Mayor Pro -Tem Johanson led the Pledge of Allegiance
and called the meeting of the Tukwila City Council
to order.
GARDNER, HILL, JOHANSON, STERLING, STEVENS, CRAIN,
Councilman TRAYNOR being seated at 8:30 pm.
MOVED BY HILL, SECONDED BY STERLING, TO APPROVE THE
VOUCHERS FOR PAYMENT. CARRIED.

MOVED BY STEVENS, SECONDED BY HILL TO READ PROPOSED
ORDINANCE. CARRIED. Attorney Parker read Ordinance
that established fee for current use assessment 0 6
applications to be set at $50.00, plus one dollar per
acre or fraction thereof, of the property described
in the application. MOVED BY HILL, SECONDED BY
STEVENS TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 711 AS READ. CARRIED.

Parker read Ordinance that rezones from R -1 to M -2
and area commonly known as Gaco Western and statesic 1
legal description therein. MOVED BY HILL, SECONDED
BY CRAIN TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 712 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Parker read Ordinance that rezones from R -1 to M -2
an area commonly known as the Hugh Mitchell property
and stated legal description therein. MOVED BY
STEVENS, SECONDED BY HILL TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 713 IN
ITS ENTIRETY. CARRIED.
After a brief presentation by Del Moss, Planning
Coordinator on the citys position of the Strander
Bridge project and by Mr. Charles Baker on the liar
position of the industrial and business area it was
MOVED BY TRAYNOR, SECONDED BY STERLING, TO READ AND
ADOPT THE PROPOSED RESOLUTION. Attorney Parker read
the Resolution authorizing the acceptance of the
grant in sum of $270,000 from the State Department of
Commerce, to aid in the construction of the Strander
Bridge. THE MOTION TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 302 CARRIED.
CORRESPONDENCE AND CURRENT BUSINESS
Alcoholism Program The council directed the City Clerk to obtain a list
of the local agencys and to contact Valley General
Hospital re: possible areas of contribution of the
2% liquor profit and tax funds that must be turned
over to one of those agencys effective July 1, 1972.

PERMANENT MASSEUSE LICENSE TO JANIE M. MARTIN FOR THE
CURRENT YEAR CARRIED.
A letter addressed to the Council President re:
Seattle Rendering Works and its proper use under
the M -1 category and the issuance of a building
permit was brought before the Council for its
consideration. After discussion on the interpretation
of the Municipal Code it was MOVED BY STEVENS,
SECONDED BY TRAYNOR TO CONCUR WITH THE PLANNING
COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE MATTER. CARRIED.

Mayor Pro -Tem Johanson asked that Mr. Zepp, Assistant
to the Mayor, approach the Aliments and set up a
meeting with them to discuss the appraisal and
future development of the Foster Golf Course.
Police Chief Sheets reported steady increase in
crimes and one fatal accident for the month of June.
He suggested to Council that a letter could be
drafted and sent to the State Department of Highways
expressing hazardous condition in the area of
Interurban and the exit from Interstate 5 where the
fatal accident occured.
Acting Chief Crawley reported 18 emergency calls
for the month of June with a loss of $400.00. He
reported also on a program of color coding hydrants
for water consumption purpose, a flagpole that was
donated to the department by Stoneway of Renton and
home receivers that have been ordered for the
Volunteers.
Mr. Bob Hawkins of Hill, Ingman, Chase, noted the
Public Hearing to be held on Monday, July 10th on
L.I.D. 19 and 18 at 8:00 pm in the Council Chambers.
Mr. Gene Isler, Field Superintendent, reported that
31 signs have been replaced or reworked with the
department taking 54 service calls, picking up 5 dead
animals and assisting 5 police calls after hours.
He reported also that the slide area on 54th has been
completed with billing to be sent in.
Mrs. Davis expressed the need for a traffic signal at
58th and Interurban so that children might cross
safely. Chief Sheets pointed out that if a Mini
Park is to be built in the area a signal should be
considered.
Mrs. Helen Nelson expressed a need for street lighting
in the area of 158th to 180th on SR181 and asked to
have the weeds and high grass mowed down along that
area also.
Mr. Charles Baker made a brief statement on a
Trade Fair to be held in the Tukwila Mall in
conjunction with the Tukwila Days celebration and
requested a place on the agenda at the next regular
meeting to go into the matter further.
