Tukwila City Hall • 6200 SouthcenterBoulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188 • 206-433-1800 • Website: TukwilaWA.gov TUKWILA PARKS & RECREATION GOOD HF 7"Y FUN PARK COMMISSION MINUTES November 11th, 2024 5:30pm Tukwila Community Center Attendance: Commissioners —Kathleen Gantz, Sean Albert, Gina Bernhardt -Nielsen, Roby Snow, and Joe Camacho, Teo Hunter Staff —Matthew Austin Other: Tukwila Pool (Brad, Diane, Vanessa, Ellen) Approval of Minutes: 1st Sean Albert, 2nd Roby Approval of Agenda: 1st Sean Albert, 2nd Roby Snow Special Presentations: Brad, Diane, Vanessa, Ellen(Tukwila Pool) Citizen Comment: None Business Items: 5. Tukwila Pool Feasibility Study a. Vanessa provided an overview of the pool history, creation, and transition to a Park District, going into capacity of the pool, limits, and current waitlists due to those factors. i. Commissioner Bernhart-Nielsen asked questions regarding ADA access and facility improvements to ensure access is maintained. Asked whether the pool would be open during construction and if there was limits on the facility related to parking with the new added capacity. ii. Brad went into the current proposed design elements, increased value adds and modifications based on 3 different plan proposals. iii. Brad mentioned that there would be added capacity based on current design proposals. Brad stated there are options they are looking at regarding being open during construction. Regarding parking Brad said they have sufficient capacity for the proposed added pool capacity. iv. Commissioner Albert asked about strategic competition in the area. v. Pool commissioners responded saying that there was no direct competion within 15 miles, and that the goal is to serve recreation swimmers within the community. Also metioned that American Red Cross partnership that offers grants for water safety to the facility. vi. Ellen highlighted lesser known programs such as sycronized swimming. b. Matthew Austin, spoke about green infrastructure planning and how surface water would be utilizing surface water funds to make improvements on the areas outside of the park maintained areas, such as shoreline and city owned green spaces. i. Commissioner Albert asked about having Mike Perfetti speak on the green infrastructure program. c. Park Maintenance Update i. Matthew Austin spoke about current maintenance, with an emphasis on leaf control and leaf management. d. Conversation regarding skipping the December meeting, consensus for the commissioners was that the December Meeting would be skipped and the January Meeting would be the next meeting on 1/8/2025 e. Student Rep Vacancy i. Matthew Austin, Let the commissioners know that the Mayors office was notified that we have a vacancy for the student rep and we are currently seeking a new student rep to fill the vacancy. f.
