HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-06-04 Regular MinutesThe meeting was called to order by Mayor J. P. Walkup at 8:00. Those present were J. R. Naylor, Eli Thompson, and J. S. Storey. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap- proved. BILLS Current Expense Fund:• H. H. Brewer, Labor on Streets Tukwila Garage, Gas for Grader 0. W. Kimball, Operating Grader J. M. Hall, Water Collections 5.00 W136.45 All bills were reported O.K. by the Finance Committee and on motion the clerk was instructed to draw warrants for their respective amounts. Mayor Walkup called attention to the fact that since the new registration law went into effect in cities and towns in Washing- ton no provision had been made for compensation for the extra work involved and suggested that an additional renumeration be allowed. On motion the fee was increased from five cents a name to ten cents and the clerk was instructed to draw a warrant for $10.20 additional infavor of Helen Cumming. COMMUNICATIONS The Treasurers report was read and on motion approved and ordered placed on file. The Water Supt. report was read and approved. Report of County Treasurer was read and approved. A communication from the Association of Washington Cities acknowledging receip t of dues for Tukwila was read. Ther being no further tiasiness the Council on motion adjourn- ed sina die. The Mayor thanked the retiring Council for their co- operation and asked for the same co- operation of the new Council. The new Council was then called to order. The new members }gyres @nt were J. R. Naylor, Eli Thompson, J. W. Sanders, D. S. Dugan signed election certificates and the clerk administered the oath of office and the new councilmen were declared duly qualified and took their seats in office. The chair then asked the newly elected Councilmen for suggek tions for new business for the coming year. Councilman Dugan spoke in favor of a reduction of water rates stating that he thought instead of paying industrial bonds before due the the money should be applied toward the relieving the burden of the water user. The Mayor stated that negotiations were being considered for that relief through the City Water Dept. Councilman Sanders spoke of bad conditions of street at the corner of Tukwila Ave. and Warren Ave. The matter was referred to the Street Committee and Street Supt. with power to relieve the situation. Councilman Storey complained of nuisance of bushes and weeds along the old interru- ban right of way. The Mayor suggested the Street Supt. see the nuisance was abated.
