1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM
2. Roll Call
a. Board Members: Robin Boland, Cynthia Chesak, Verna Seal, Marie Parrish, Steve Miller,

• Absent: Angie Gonzalez, Gerie Ventura
a. Staff:
• City of Tukwila Staff: Marlus Francis, Interim Recreation Superintendent King County

3. Land Acknowledgement- Robin Boland read the land acknowledgement:
"The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. We acknowledge their
continuing connections to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders past, present
and emerging."
4. Approval of Agenda and Minutes - September 10, 2024
a. Agenda & Minutes: Cynthia Chesak motioned to approve the agenda and minutes as amended.
Robin Boland seconded the motion to approve the agenda and minutes as amended; all were in
favor.
5. Public Comment: No public comments
6. Unfinished Business
a. Little Library update - Ms. Chesak asked if John was comfortable with her asking the Cascade
View Elementary School Principal about the possibility of adding a little library at CVE.

7. New Business
a. 2024 Budget update. The group looked over the budget and Marlus explained that instead of
spending $200 on Magazines, she spent $499. The group agreed that there was money in the
budget to cover the overage and liked the idea of there being magazines in the lobby as well as
the youth room.
b. Halloween Carnival participation. The Board would like to have a presence at the carnival and
plans on purchasing Scholastic Books on Monday, October 14th between 10am - 11am in Kent.

Verna will be in costume and acting as a "Book Reader" at the event. They would also like to
facilitate a Book Walk where they will give away books and donated candy.
8. Staff Reports
a. I<CLS: Staff provided updates on the upcoming activities at the library.
b. City of Tukwila: Marlus Francis provided an update on City and Parks and Recreation events,
programs and other information.
9. Reports of Board Members/Announcements
a. None
10. Next Meeting: November 5th — Election Day has been CANCELLED. The December meeting will be held
on Tuesday, December 3'
a. Agenda Items:
i. Halloween Carnival wrap up
ii. 2024 wrap up
iii. Check in with student Angie Gonzales to see if she is having any transportation issues or
is still interested in serving on the board (John).
iv. Crystal Lyons put in an application to serve on the board.
v. Cynthia would like to see that the magazines in the fitness room get cleaned out and
updated to not look so cluttered. She is willing to help with that, but Marlus mentioned
this was something the front desk can do too.
