HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-01-27 Proclamation - Holocaust Remembrance Dayr 9 Office of the Mayor City of Tukwila, Washington PROCLAMATION WHEREAS the United Nations has designated January 27 as an annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust; and WHEREAS January 27, 2025, marks 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz- Birkenau concentration camp in German-occupied Poland; and WHEREAS the Holocaust, which resulted in the murder of one third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities, will forever be a warning to all people of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism and prejudice; and WHEREAS, with the official commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day we promote Holocaust education throughout the world. It is imperative to affirmatively speak out and oppose hatred and actions to attack, murder, or commit other heinous acts against people because of their religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disabilities or other qualities of their personhood; and WHEREAS, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day has been set aside to remember the victims of the Holocaust, as well as to reflect on the need for respect and non-discriminatory acceptance of all peoples and to overcome intolerance and indifference through learning and remembrance. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Thomas McLeod, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby proclaim January 27, 2025, as: Holocaust Remembrance Day In the City of Tukwila and encourage all community residents to join me in reflecting on this day of remembrance.
