Vision Tukwila '94 —
Tell us what we can do for you
Vision
If you have any questions
about Vision Tukwila,
please call Rhonda Berry
at 433-1851.
Vision Tukwila gives you the opportunity to take part in City government by bringing
elected officials and City staff to your neighborhood, to discuss the things that are
important to you. If you want to know what going on with Community -oriented
policing, Tukwila Pond Park or the City's Comprehensive Plan, or how to file a code
enforcement complaint, then a Vision Tukwila get-together is where you should be.
Meetings will be held at five locations throughout the City, and you are welcome
to attend any one or all of the meetings. Mayor Wally Rants looks forward to hearing
what's on the minds of the citizens, and then doing what it takes to improve
Tukwila's livability. "Initiatives like community -oriented policing and Tukwila
Pond Park will go a long way toward enhancing our community," says Rants.
Meeting dates, times and locations are shown inside.

A nine -member "Community -Oriented Policing" Citizens Advisory Board
has been formed to advise the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and City Council
regarding all aspects of public safety, on behalf of Tukwila's schools,
businesses and residents. Meeting since August, they have been reviewing
background information on crime, police operations, public service pro-
grams, and the philosophy of Community -oriented policing. Now, they'd
like to hear from you.
Members of the COP advisory board, as well as representatives from the
Police Department, will be at these meetings to meet you. In order to best

The Comprehensive Plan is a guide for the community's future — like a
road map. The Tukwila Planning Commission recently held a public
hearing on the Comprehensive Plan; over 70 people participated.
In the months of October, November and December, the Planning
Commission will review the public comments and make their recom-
mendation to the City Council.

There are seven residential areas and two commercial
areas within Tukwila City limits that do not have
sewers. The City Council Utilities Committee and
City administration are finalizing a sewer design plan
and construction policies. Take this opportunity to
talk to Public Works staff about this issue and about
other major improvement projects.

Recycle Week '94 - October 17th to 23rd
The theme of this third annual statewide event is "It starts with Prevention." And
it may sound odd, but recycling really does start with prevention. What we buy is
as important as how we dispose of it. Before you shop, ask yourself some simple
questions like "Do I need this?" "Is it reusable?" "What would happen if this got into
my drinking water?" and "Is it made from recycled materials?"
Washingtonians are great recyclers — over 35% of our waste is recycled. The State
legislature has set a recycling goal of 50% by 1995. Reaching this goal will take the
help of every citizen.
The Tukwila City Hall lobby will feature a display of materials with recycled content
October 6-20. We also have special information about activities for schools, PTAs,
Boy & Girl Scouts, Camp Fire, 4-H clubs, YMCAs and libraries.
New this year is the "family contract", wherein families can pledge to participate
in waste reduction and recycling activities during this week. Families who send in
contracts will be entered in a drawing to win a canvas tote bag. Certificates and
magnets will also be awarded by the Washington Department of Ecology for
participation. For information about Recycle Week '94 or to get a family contract,
call Rebecca Fox at 431-3683, or Sheila Hosner of the DOE at 649-7250.
