Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items. I. Intergovernmental Update • Community Leader Roundtable: Inclusion & Engagement Manager Jo Anderson partnered with the Tukwila Library to host a roundtable with area community leaders on April 14. The group met again on April 28 to determine purpose and frequency of gathering. • Sound Cities Association Mayors Meeting: Mayor McLeod participated in a Sound Cities Association Mayors meeting on April 15. • South King County Human Services Planners Meeting: Human Services staff participated in the South King County Human Services Planners meeting on April 16. • Tour of Bow Lake Transfer Station: On April 17 King County provided a private tour for the City of Tukwila of the Bow Lake Transfer Station located in Tukwila. • PNW Education & Workforce Summit: On April 24 Inclusion & Engagement Manager Jo Anderson attended the PNW Education and Workforce Summit sponsored by the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce. A large panel of leaders discussed prospects and challenges for student success. • Meeting with Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Director: On April 22 Mayor McLeod met with Josh Brown, Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Director to discuss Tukwila transportation projects. • Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board Meeting: Mayor McLeod participated in a Puget Sound Regional Council Board meeting on April 24. • Miracle Village Community Action Committee Meeting: Human Services staff attended the monthly Miracle Village Community Action Committee meeting. The long-term hot meal provider has stepped down and the Village is moving to individual serving, shelf stable pantry to stretch SNAP benefits for residents. Community Events • Food Waste Prevention Workshops: To promote Food Waste Prevention Week (April 7-13), Public Works staff hosted a "How to Reduce Wasted Food and Save Money" workshop at the Tukwila Library on April 12. Food waste reduction kits were provided for the 18 workshop participants. • Summer Camp Registration: On April 15 the Summer Camp Registration Event was held at TCC. Over 110 individuals participated in the event and camp deposits and payments totaling $14,000 were collected. • Arbor Day Tree Planting: Mayor McLeod participated in the Arbor Day tree planting with the Tukwila Preschool on April 16. • Duwamish Alive: The Green Tukwila Program held its annual signature event, Duwamish Alive, at Duwamish Hill Preserve on April 19. Over 30 community members came out to help restore the natural environment. • Hickory Club Tournament: Foster Golf Links hosted 40 golfers at the Hickory Club Tournament on April 19. The event was part of the Centennial Year celebrations. • South King County Career Showcase: On April 23 Transportation Demand Management staff co -tabled at the youth -oriented South King County Career Showcase organized by the Southside Chamber of Commerce and WorkSource. Staff provided transportation information, youth ORCA cards, and highlighted City employment opportunities. • Green Cleaning Workshop: Public Works held a green cleaning workshop, "How to Make Your Own Non -Toxic Cleaners" at Tukwila Library on April 27. Green cleaning kits were provided for 20 workshop participants. III. Staff Updates Public Safety • Safety Presentation at Cascade View Elementary: On April 15 the school resource officer and community engagement coordinator visited a Cascade View Elementary kindergarten class to speak about safety, when to call 911, and how a police officer's presence doesn't always mean something bad is happening. The students asked questions, got to check out a patrol car, and received official Tukwila Junior Officer stickers. • Meeting with Great American Casino: On April 17 Chief Dreyer, Deputy Chief Lund and the SEU commander had a follow-up meeting with the management of the Great American Casino concerning the safety issues at their place of business. • Coffee with a Cop: The Police Department hosted Coffee WithA Cop at the mall on April 18. Police and mall staff participated in fun activities with shoppers including playing cornhole, eating donuts and visiting with the Easter Bunny. • Homeless Encampment Clean Up: On April 22, the Special Emphasis Unit (SEU) participated with staff from Parks & Recreation and Public Works to clean up two homeless camps near the footbridge from the Christiansen Road area to West Valley Highway. The SEU will also be working with WSDOT to clean up Green River trail homeless camp. Phone: 206-433-1800 • Email: Mayor@TukwilaWA.gov • Website: TukwilaWA.gov 220 City Administrator's Report April 29, 2025 Page 3 • Meeting with HearMeWA: On April 24, Chief Dreyer, the school resource officers and the department mental health professionals, met with representatives from HearMeWA a statewide tip line that receives and responds to youth health and safety tips. The tipline operates at no cost, is available 24/7/365, offers an app, text, chat, and phone line, and serves youth up to the age of 25. • Hero Night: On May 8 the Tukwila Police Department will join other public safety departments for Hero Night at Southcenter Chick-fil-A where the off -road vehicle will be on display as officers interact with the community. Project Updates • Surface Water Project: Water Quality Outfall Retrofit night work is scheduled to begin May 5 on SR 599 off -ramp (north) to Tukwila International Boulevard bridge and westbound Tukwila International Boulevard (right lane) weekly Sun -Thu 9 PM to 5 AM, Sat 10 PM-7 AM, for approximately 6 weeks. Boards, Commissions and Committees We welcome the City Council to encourage community members to apply for vacant Board & Commission positions. • Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2025. 2 resident position terms expire March 31, 2026. No vacancies. • Civil Service Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for May 15, 2025. 1 resident position term expires March 31, 2026. No vacancies. • COPCAB: The next meeting is scheduled for May 8, 2025. 3 resident position terms expire March 31, 2026. VACANT: 1 Business Position and Student Representative. • Equity & Social Justice Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for May 1, 2025. 1 City Employee position term expires March 31, 2026. 2 Education position terms expire March 31, 2026. 1 Community position term expires March 31, 2026. No vacancies. • Human Services Advisory Board: The next meeting is scheduled for June 12, 2025. 1 Resident position term expires March 31, 2026. 1 School District position term expires March 31, 2026. 1 Medical/Health position term expires March 31, 2026. Responses to Council/Community Inquiries Date of Inquiry Inquiry Response April 21, 2025 At the Tukwila South Connection charges are determined by the total cost of Work Session, a constructing the sewer system serving a specific service councilmember asked area.
