REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Mayor McLeod called the Regular Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order at 7:00 p,m, and led the audience in the Pledge of Ailegiance, ROLL CALL Andy Youn-Barnett, City Clerk, called the roil of the Council. Present at the meeting were Councilmernbers Tcsh Sharp (on -site), Armen Papyan (on -site), Dennis Martinez (on -site), Hannah Hedrick (virtual); and Verna Seal (on -site), MOVED BY SEAL, SECONDED BY MARTINEZ TO EXCUSE THE ABSENCE OF COUNCI MEMBER MCCONNELL. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. Mayor McLeod called for a motion to excuse Counciimember Abdi's absence. No motion was made. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Mayor McLeod stated The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters and culture We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging." MOTION CARRIED 5-0. U LIC COMMENTS 1. Katrina Dohn thanked various City departments and ccmmunity organizations that recently came together to work on beautification projects. 2. Joe Duffle congratulated the new Police Sergeant and emphasized the importance of voting. 3 WO Ragin shared he will be leaving the City to pursue other opportunities and commented on his time and experiences with the City. Tukwila, City of Opportunity Scholarship: (1) Authorize "Tukwila, City of Opportunity Scholarship" awards in the amount of 500 each to Alex Brewster, Jeremiah Burroughs, Mikaela Calimlim, Khrystalline Car -nacho, Elllyssa Castillo Aisha Hassan, Rochelle Jeffries, and Joshua Manaols. (2) Authorize the expenditure of an additional $2,000,00 to proceed with the recommended scholarship awards for 2025, Mayor McLeod overviewed the Tukwila City of Opportunity Scholarship program and this year's recommended scholarship awarcts Whie the allocated budget for the scholarship program is $10,,000, the scholarship selection committee is requesting an additional $2,000 00 to proceed with the recommended awards, MOVED BY SEAL, SECONDED BY MARTINEZ TO AUTHORIZE "TUKWILA, CITY OF OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP" AWARDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,500 EACH TO ALEX BREWSTER, JEREMIAH BURROUGHS, MIKAELA CALIMLIM, KHRYSTALLINE CAMACHO, ELLYSSA CASTILLO, AISHA HASSAN, ROCHELLE JEFFRIES, AND JOSHUA MANAOIS. He commended City staff for their professionalism and their quality of work, 13, City Council Councilmember Paoyen toured the SCORE (South Correctional Entity) jail facility, He attended the annual South King County Career Showcase hosted by the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce at the Access° ShoVVare Center, Councilmember Martinez. spoke with residents at Foster Point regarding cost of living, Councillmember Hedrick toured the SCORE (South Correctional Entity) jail facility Councilmember Seal shared the 'Tukwila Library AdvisoryBoard is seeking to fill the student representative vacancy. c. Staff Many Wine, City Administrator, referenced the City Administrators Report in the agenda packet and shared the Tukwila Promise program is moving forward towards implementation.
