AT A COMMUNITY FORUM
ON OCTOBER 21st
This may be your last opportunity to
voice your opinion about the light rail
routing in your community.
Since annexation of the Highway 99
corridor in 1989, Tukwila's citizens, elected
officials and staff members have worked
hard to reverse the effects of years of
decline. This has been a long, hard fight,
involving lots of time and a lot of effort.
As you are aware, Sound Transit staff
has proposed alignment of light rail
down Tukwila International Boulevard
as their "Locally Preferred Alternative."
Last year Tukwila citizens turned out in
large numbers to let Sound Transit Execu-
tive Board members and staff know their
opinions about this routing. The Board is
scheduled to make its final decision on the
Tukwila routing in mid-November.
The City of Tukwila invites you to come to
community meeting, to learn the latest
Formation about what's happening
with the routing, and how YOU can
impact the routing decision.

Ninety-three (93) properties on
Tukwila International Boulevard have
been designated for partial or full
acquisition under Sound Transit's
proposal.
One hundred seventeen (117)
parking spaces will be lost, without
replacement.
Eleven (11), or 69%, of currently open
cross streets will be blocked.
Solid cement sound barriers, 6 to 10
feet in height and potentially 2,170
linear feet long, may be placed along
the alignment.
Every 10 to 15 minutes, two 360 -foot
long trains will pass along the corridor
from 5:OOAM to 1:OOAM.

Here's what your elected Tukwila
City officials say about the
proposed Light Rail alignment:
"Our community stands at a crossroads. We
MUST do everything in our power to ensure
that Sound Transit carries out the will of those
who voted fora light rail system. Let your voice
be among those telling Sound Transit to do the
job right. Serving Tukwila's urban center is the
right thing to do."
- Mayor John "Wally" Rants
"Do not let our city be divided by light rail.
Attend the community -wide summit on
Thursday October 21 and voice your concerns."
- Dave Fenton, Council President
'The Highway 99 alignment is disruptive to
schools and destructive to our neighborhoods
and local businesses. This is not the legacy we
want to leave future generations."
- Steve Mullet, Councilmember
"A light rail system on Tukwila International
Boulevard complies with neither the Vision
Tukwila Plan, our Comprehensive Land Use
Plan, the Tukwila Village Development Plan,
nor the Tukwila School District Strategic Plan."
— Jim Haggerton, Councilmember
"Whatever route is chosen, light rail will have
a major impact on our city for many years to
come. It could stimulate new development or
it could divide Tukwila in two. Time is short.
Sound Transit will select an alignment in just
one month. Come hear the latest information."
— Pam Carter, Councilmember
"Hello, citizens. Now it is time for us to stand
together and let Sound Transit know we will
not let them put a roadblock transit system on
Highway 99 without a fight."
— Joe Duffie, Councilmember
"We voted for a route that relieved congestion,
connected urban centers, and maximized
ridership. We'd settle for a route that does any
one of those things. The proposed route does
NONE of those. Come to this meeting and help
us send another message to Sound Transit."
— Pam Linder, Councilmember
"Next month, regional decision makers may
select a light rail route that would divide our
city with 360 -foot long trains running every
6 minutes down Tukwila International
Boulevard, disrupting our ability to make left
turns and impacting east -west traffic to and
from places like the Foster Library and Larry's
Market. As a Tukwila citizen, is this your
preferred alternative?"
— Joan Hernandez, Councilmember
