Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items. I. Intergovernmental Update • Sound Cities Association Board: On May 13 Mayor McLeod was elected to the Sound Cities Association Board and participated in his first Board meeting on May 21. • Soundside Alliance Committee Meeting: Economic Development staff attended the Soundside Alliance Operations Committee meeting on May 13. • Tukwila Promise Bill Signing: On May 13 Mayor McLeod and Councilmembers Hedrick, Martinez, Papyan and Seal were in Olympia for Governor Ferguson's signing of SHB 1587 which created the Tukwila Promise program. • Meeting with Tukwila School District: On May 14 Mayor McLeod and City Administrator Wine met with Tukwila School District Superintendent Dr. Concie Pedroza. • Meeting with 11th District Legislators: On May 15 Mayor McLeod and Director Miles joined the City's State lobbyist in a meeting with 11th District legislators, Senator Hasegawa, Representative Bergquist and Representative Hackney, to discuss the previous legislative session and prepare for next year. • Green Duwamish Partnership Meeting: The Green Duwamish Partnership held its quarterly meeting on May 15, and learned from WSDOT about a partnership program that would permit jurisdictions and landowners to 1) beautify (vegetation, art etc.) WSDOT roadsides and underpasses and 2) use WSDOT right-of-way for green stormwater infrastructure projects. Applicants would be responsible for maintenance. • King County Flood Control District Advisory Board Meeting: Mayor McLeod and staff from Public Works and Economic Development attended the King County Flood Control District's Advisory Board meeting on May 15. The District will be prioritizing projects this summer. • Legacy & Leadership Reception: On May 15 Mayor McLeod and Director Miles attended the Legacy and Leadership Reception hosted by South King County Habitat for Humanity. Tukwila City Hall • 6200 Southcenter Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188 • 206-433-1800 • Website: TukwilaWA.gov 87 City Administrator's Report May 27, 2025 Page 2 • NW Women's Leadership Academy (NWWLA) Presentation: On May 20 City Administrator Wine presented at a NWWLA webinar on Transitions: New Boss, New Teammates. • Critical Infrastructure Performance Audit: Washington State Auditor's Office (SAO) completed its Critical Infrastructure performance audit of the City of Tukwila and held an exit conference with the City on May 21 to summarize the audit results, including recommendations for improving IT security controls. In September 2025 the SAO will also issue a high-level public report that summarizes all the IT security local government audits completed in fiscal year 2025. This report will not name the city or provide any details about the city's IT security audit results but will focus on the number of local government IT security audits SAO completed during the fiscal year and the audits' scope and methodologies. • Kent Valley Air & Space Manufacturing Roundtable: On May 22 Mayor McLeod and economic development staff attended the quarterly meeting of the Kent Valley Air & Space Manufacturing Roundtable, which was held at the Museum of Flight. The discussions focused on collaboration to retain and attract the air and space businesses and jobs. • Puget Sound Regional Council General Assembly: Mayor McLeod and Councilmembers Martinez and Papyan attended the Puget Sound Regional Council General Assembly on May 22. • StART Steering Committee: On May 22 Director Miles attended the StART Steering Committee meeting hosted by the Port of Seattle. • Washington Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA) Presentations: Tukwila Parks and Recreation staff, in partnership with the Washington Cities Insurance Authority, presented six sessions at the WRPA Annual Conference in Kennewick: Riding the Rapids: Mastering Risk and Adaptability in Uncharted Waters; Safe Havens: Reinventing Park Safety, Security, and Risk Management; Guardians of Play: Preventing Child Abuse in Recreation; Blueprints for Safety: Mastering Facilities Management for Recreation; Elevating Your Recreation Event Management Programs Through a Risk Management Lens; and Risk Management Leadership - From Risk to Possibility. • South King County Human Services Planners Meeting: HS staff participated in the monthly SKC HS Planners meeting. Discussion: Impacts of federal changes/executive orders, Crisis Care Levy; Joint MOUs • Washington Association of Public Records Officers (WAPRO) Spring Conference: Clerk's Office staff participated in the WAPRO spring conference. • Case Study for Private LTE: TIS is a partner with Tukwila School District and University of Washington on case study for private Long Term Evolution internet. II. Community Events • Washington Tree Equity Collaborative Learning Lab: On June 9 American Forest will host a learning lab at the Tukwila Community Center where Mayor McLeod will give opening remarks and Land Commissioner Dave Upthegrove will also speak. During the event Olena Perry and Heidi Watters will lead a Tree Equity talk, highlighting projects and programs in Tukwila. Participants can learn about the project and provide input to help guide the design process. There will be a follow-on meeting at the farmers market in September to discuss design alternatives. ill. Staff Updates Public Safety • Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs (WASPC) Spring Conference: Chief Dreyer attended the WASPC Spring Conference. • Homeless Camp Cleanup: The Special Emphasis Unit detectives assisted Seattle City Light with a homeless camp cleanup in the area of 11600 Tukwila International Blvd Project Updates • UrbanPlan Event at Foster High School: Economic Development and Community Development staff participated in an UrbanPlan event at Foster High School organized by the Urban Land Institute (uli.org) in partnership with Mr. Camacho's Environmental Sciences class. UrbanPlan is an immersive learning experience designed to help the participants understand policy choices and market forces in developing mixed -use neighborhoods and appreciate the tradeoffs in community development. Participants gather into teams and use resources provided by ULI (instructions, workbooks, spreadsheets and large Legos) to propose a downtown development plan for a fictious town. Boards, Commissions and Committees We welcome the City Council to encourage community members to apply for vacant Board & Commission positions. • Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for June 18, 2025. 2 resident position terms expire March 31, 2026. No vacancies. • COPCAB: The next meeting is scheduled for June 12, 2025. 3 resident position terms expire March 31, 2026. VACANT: 1 Business Position and Student Representative. • Equity & Social Justice Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for June 5, 2025. 1 City Employee position term expires March 31, 2026. 2 Education position terms expire March 31, 2026. 1 Community position term expires March 31, 2026.
